The product, in the report: I bought it from Amazon and the brand was Andotopee Electric Wax Seal Warmer and Spoon Kit with 80ml Spoon, Non-Stick Sealing Wax Spoon for Fast Melting Beads and Sticks - Sealing Melting Furnace Set for Stamp Seals Craft, White
I bought a wax melter for my wife’s hobbies she was using the unit and it began to smoke excessively and caught the wax inside the supplied melting pot luckily there was no injuries or permanent damage. I wanted to find out what happened to see if it was user error. I noticed it did not have any notices, warnings or ratings on the unit. So i disassembled the unit and tested the operating function and safety components. I checked the internals and the thermal coupling is only rated at 175 C or 347 f. I found the thermal coupling wasn’t actually functional until the temperature was around 685f which is way to hot for safe table top use. it was supposed to have a temperature controller which regulated the voltage. The regulator voltage at low setting was around 18v ac, any setting above this was full power at 120v ac. and another discerning part was the whole apparatus was fastened together by a single 2in wood screw. I left a review on the page which Amazon neglected to post. I also reported to Amazon’s product safety page with no response.
