The product, in the report: 551 Metal Holographic Bright Green & Red Dot Sight
What happened that made you want to report?
I purchased the 551 sight on the Amazon platform that contains a button/coin cell battery. During use, I discovered that the product’s battery compartment lacked effective secure fastening measures, allowing the battery to be easily removed by a child who subsequently swallowed it. This presents a serious safety hazard, which prompted me to file this report. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09MLJ7TG4
What type of product(s) were being used?
It is an electronic product everyday item (551 Metal Holographic Bright Green & Red Dot Sight) that contains a button/coin cell battery, purchased through the Amazon platform.
Who was using the product(s)?
The product was originally being used by an adult for its intended purpose. However, a young child gained access to the product and removed the button cell battery from it.
How were the product(s) being used?
The product was being used in a normal manner. However, during or after normal use, the battery compartment cover failed to remain securely closed and could be opened without the use of any tools, allowing the internal button cell battery to fall out and be accessed by the child.
Were there any injuries that happened or may have happened while using the product?
Yes, an injury occurred. The child placed the button cell battery in their mouth and swallowed it.
How did any injuries occur?
After the child removed the button cell battery from the product, they placed it in their mouth and ingested it. Once swallowed, the button cell battery can trigger an electrical current upon contact with saliva, potentially causing severe burns to local tissues within the esophagus.
