How badly anyone was hurt

  • No one hurt 1 CPSC: Incident, No Injury

As each report says it, in short words; CPSC’s own words are under each.

The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Jan 19, 2023, sent to the company Feb 9, 2023, published by CPSC Feb 24, 2023

The product, in the report: Open Circuits: The Inner Beauty of Electronic Components, Hardcover Publisher: No Starch Press Dimensions: 8.31 x 0.91 x 10.35 inches “Printed in China”, “First printing” on the copyright page; printing numbers: 26 25 24 23 22 1 2 3 4 5 https://nostarch.com/open-circuits [REDACTED]

I believe there is an above-normal amount of formaldehyde being released by a hardcover book published by No Starch Press, “Open Circuits”. The copyright page says it is Printed in China. I believe it is being released from the very stiff hardcover material on the front. It might require a little bit of temperature cycling to get started, but it does not require much wait. I ordered this product from Amazon and received it from Book Depository.

My only instruments are my nose and lungs, so I could be wrong, but I have had formaldehyde exposure before from other objects. I know it causes significant lung irritation and a distinct cold sensation in my nose.

This is a modestly popular book and I believe tens of thousands were printed or will be printed. I would guess there are many other titles made by the same manufacturer in China, but I do not know who No Starch Press ordered them from.

If you would like, I can mail in for testing the covers stripped off of my book, and I can order you a new book as a fresher sample.
