The product, in the report: The elevator was a LEV residential elevator
On February 1, 2017, a two and a half year old child was crushed under the car of a residential elevator. The child died from his injuries.
This report is being filed by counsel for the deceased child’s parents. The filer previously notified the CPSC of potentially fatal hazards associated with many residential or home elevators and subsequently filed a “Petition For Recall to Repair/Retrofit and Rulemaking” (CP 15-1) with the CPSC on November 13, 2014.
The specific reason why and how the child wound up under the elevator car is not yet determined. An inspection of the elevator will take place on March 24, 2017 with multiple parties.
