The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Neck shoulder wrap

Purchased a Welby Therapy Neck Shoulder Wrap from Aldi on Friday 15th December 2023. Heated it as instructed for 60 seconds in the microwave Recommended 90 seconds. Warm but not too warm so gave it another 20 seconds. Worked fine. Yesterday Dec 16th I put it in the microwave at 90 seconds as instructed on box. My son yelled that the kitchen was on fire. I turned around and the product was on fire in the microwave. Flames and smoke and the microwave was still operating. I ran and hit stop. There were flames coming off the bag. I waited several seconds hoping it would go out while I weighed my options. Finally after realising the fire was not going to go out anytime soon I had a wet towel, opened the microwave and placed the towel over the burning bag. My Microwave sustained damage to the inside top and sides including scorching of a metal cover plate on the inside wall. The microwave smells acrid after the fire and I’m not happy to use it. What are my options? I will take it back to the retailer ALDI and asked for a new microwave as redress. I followed the heating instructions pretty conservatively considering this was a brand new item.
