  1. Hurt, no treatment

Made Feb 23, 2019, sent to the company Mar 13, 2019, published by CPSC Apr 3, 2019

The product, in the report: Small gray and white colored panda bear plush. The bear is filled with ceramic beads and lavender, and is sold as microwaveable and coolable and aromatherapuetic.

I was microwaving the bear as instructed. The directions specifically said to microwave the Cozy Hugs brand panda bear in 30 second intervals up to 1 minute and 30 seconds in a rotating microwave. Such was done. I opened the microwave early upon noticing a burning smell and took the bear out, only to have many very hot ceramic beads spill onto my skin and cause minor burns from brief contact. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that a hole had been melted around the leg/hind end of the bear. The seams of the leg and hind end appeared to be damaged (possibly burnt) and had melted plastic (presumably from the faux fur fabric) all over the edges, with hot beads stuck in it. Hot beads spilled all over the floor and the bear, leaving them stuck to the exterior fabric and resulting in major risk of burns upon touching. Over half and hour later a smokey smell is still coming from the bear and the beads are still hot. The panda bear was bought new in package and I had used it a few times before (approximately 10 times total) since receiving it in January. There was no evidence of holes or tears before microwaving the bear.

The product, in the report: Cozy Hugs neck wrap. Tan, fake fur dog

We had a Cozy Hugs neck wrap. It is a product that is heated in the microwave oven for a minute and put on the neck. About ten minutes after it was taken out of the microwave oven I noticed a smell and realized It was smoldering. It started to smoke in one spot and burnt through as I rushed it to the sink to immerse it in water. It now has a burn hole about the size of a quarter where it was starting to catch on fire. This is an unsafe product. My mother, a senior citizen was using it, fortunately I smelled the smoke in time and she was not hurt. This product should be removed from the market. I am horrified to find this company markets a similar product for parents with small children. I think they are owned by Gold Essence Limited.
