  1. First aid

Made Apr 28, 2014, sent to the company May 12, 2014, published by CPSC May 27, 2014

The product, in the report: NVI Advanced Dispensing Systems - Electronic Paper Towel Dispenser, Owned by Solaris Paper Inc. Bar Code # D6800122841474

This NVI Advanced Dispensing System - an electronic paper towel dispenser mounted on the public bathroom wall of a local grocery store poses a large threat to users, due to it’s exposed sawtooth, razor sharp cutters. (see Photos) I am an example of a consumer who experienced an exceedingly painful 1/2” long and 3/8” wide deep furrow carved on the inside of my index finger in the middle section. (please see photo taken 2/12/14 the day-after. In it the flap of skin Is sitting in the furrow of my finger in hopes it will reunite.) (Also a 3 week later finger photo).

This incident occurred while reaching for the paper towel, my finger was impaled by the sawtooth blade and when I withdrew my hand it ripped out a large piece of flesh, hanging by one end. There was enormous pain, a lot of blood. (AFTER my incident) the store put a warning sign on the dispenser (see photo.) The new sign Is not a deterrent for many people, certainly not small children or the illiterate.

Most public paper towel dispensers have a very pronounced series of bends the paper comes through -to COVER the cutting blade and prevent injuries such as mine. This product should have one as well. In my opinion this dispenser is unsafe and a hazard. It should be modified or removed before other injuries occur.
