In October of 2020, two unreported fires occurred in two separate solar powered street lights, professionally installed within a mobile home park to illuminate their private streets. Both fires involved the battery pack and connected electrical wiring, effectively destroying both units. The first fire occurred during the day, presumably while the unit was charging. According to park maintenance the fire self-extinguished and the only damage was scorching to the street and brick wall directly beneath the light standard. The unit was disposed of by maintenance. The second fire occurred in the evening while the light was illuminating. This fire started a small spot fire in the vegetation below the light standard, and apparently involved an explosion of the battery pack as hot metal shrapnel was found imbedded in a cloth patio furniture cushion approximately 20 feet away. No further fire damage was found and no injuries were reported. Photos of the second solar light were obtained and the unit itself was kept by the mobile home park HOA president.
