  1. Hurt, no treatment

Made Jun 13, 2023, sent to the company Jun 15, 2023, published by CPSC Jun 30, 2023

The product, in the report: This is a wireless dog fence. It includes a collar for the dog that can shock and/or vibrate when the dog is too far from an electric component the collar is supposed to communicate with. Its called: WIEZ GPS Wireless Dog Fence, Electric Dog Fence,Pet Containment System,Range 65-3281ft, Adjustable Warning Strength, Rechargeable, Harmless and Suitable for All Dogs(New Model for 2023!) That product was purchased from the Amazon website.

On February 20, 2023, I purchased this product (order # [REDACTED]): WIEZ GPS Wireless Dog Fence, Electric Dog Fence,Pet Containment System,Range 65-3281ft, Adjustable Warning Strength, Rechargeable, Harmless and Suitable for All Dogs(New Model for 2023!)

That product was purchased from the Amazon website and charged to my Amazon credit card, billed as an Amazon purchase.

The product says in its title its safe for dogs. The reviews were very positive. I relied on that information to make, what I thought to be, an informed decision.

However, the dog collar malfunctioned and shocked my dog with electricity for several minutes straight. The dog was only a few feet from the center of the area he should have been able to use. He should have been able to walk more than 60 feet away with no shock.

Additionally, when I was finally able to get the collar off of him, it shocked me so badly I yelled out loud and dropped it. This shock occurred despite the fact that the product was set on the lowest level available for the shock. I am 160 pounds. This product was marketed as appropriate for my 16 pound dog.

The collar took minutes to remove because the dog was flailing and it is snugly fit against his throat. It appeared to be giving the highest level of shock although it was clearly set at the lowest level.

My dog will not allow me to put anything like this around his neck now and will not go out back with me anymore, despite the fact that he would never be more than 2 feet from me regardless of whether I am inside or outside, prior to this event.

I have people that will testify as witnesses on my behalf.

Amazon is very clear on its website that it does not tolerate vendors attempting to alter reviews or paying people to alter or delete their review. The verbiage chosen by Amazon to describe the intolerance of these acts is extremely clear.

However, when wrote a very honest review of the product and its horrific malfunction, the vendor did in fact offer me money to take my review down. I reported that event to Amazon and described the product malfunction and the extreme pain it caused my dog. Instead of intolerance, I found the vendor had apparently never been contacted by Amazon about paying me to take down my review. In fact, the vendor continued to offer me $125 to take the review down. A very motivating amount of money for many people.

So now I relied on reviews to be accurate, because of Amazon’s extremely clear policy of intolerance for alteration or deletion of bad reviews. But that intolerance is actually nonexistent in my case, which leads me to believe other people have likely written reviews about this product malfunctioning. Those reviews would have steered me away from this product. In fact, after looking at many products similar to this one, I chose this one because the reviews gave no hint of safety problems. But those reviews can be falsified.

My dog was in extraordinary pain while he was being shocked. He now cannot even go out in back anymore. I cannot use any type of dog fence collar on him anymore. He thinks something is in the back that attacked him and lives in fear of it.

My dog and I may be luckier than some. If I left home to go to the store he could have been shocked for an hour or more straight. I’d guess a dog would likely die of a heart attack from that. Maybe from self injury due to flailing every which way to try to get away from the very powerful shock.

Amazon misled me in an extraordinary way by leading me to believe reviews are generally unaltered, when in actuality I have evidence that Amazon takes no action to stop review tampering, even when its reported directly to them.

This also makes me realize that Amazon sells many products that can be safety hazards. Some are even identified as medical devices. All of those may have skewed sets of reviews, due to review tampering. This makes me feel that the CPSC, FDA and other groups need to put out advisories.
