  1. Hurt, no treatment

Made Jan 13, 2015, sent to the company Jan 23, 2015, published by CPSC Feb 6, 2015

The product, in the report: This is a round plastic disk, approximately 9” in diameter and 1” deep. It is white. It is made by Pico.

The product is: The Original MyWarmPet Heatpad. This product is a microwavable disk that turns into a hot liquid when heated in the microwave. You put this heated disk in the pet’s bed and it keeps the bed warm for many hours. I used the product successfully for approximately 6 or 7 times. The next time I used it, I noticed that the disc looked deformed in the microwave. I microwaved it for the recommended minutes just as I had done the previous times. When I reached in with an oven mitt to remove it, the pad opened up on a seam and spilled burning hot liquid all over the mit and onto my hand, badly burning it. I was lucky to be near a sink and was able to run cold water over my burned hand. I ended up with blistered, but am worried for anyone else who wouldn’t be so lucky. This product is extremely dangerous and should be taken off the market.
