To the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission,
I am writing to report a serious safety concern regarding a cat toy I recently purchased through Amazon.
The product was advertised as being infused with catnip. When I opened the package, the toy was unexpectedly wet and oily, almost like it had been soaked in oil rather than being dry. After holding it in my hand for about a minute, I smelled it.
Within a short time, I began experiencing symptoms that included a severe headache, nausea, dizziness, and a sensation of floating. These symptoms lasted for approximately three hours. Based on the timing, I am concerned that exposure to whatever substance was on the toy may have caused these effects.
What concerns me even more is that my five-year-old daughter was standing next to me and asked if she could hold the toy. Thankfully, I told her no. Had she handled or smelled the product first, I would have been extremely concerned for her safety and likely would have called 911.
I believe this product should be investigated to determine whether it contains substances or concentrations that could pose a risk to consumers, especially children who may come into contact with pet toys in the home. At a minimum, the packaging should clearly warn consumers if the product contains concentrated oils or other ingredients that could affect people through skin contact or inhalation.
I am requesting that this incident be investigated to help prevent potential harm to other families.
Thank you for your time and attention to this safety concern.
Sincerely,
[REDACTED]
