The product, in the report: The product is kathson 2Pcs Wood Hamster Climbing Branches Decor, ASIN B0GQ39X6ZX, sold by ywhfjck and shipped by Amazon. It is a small animal habitat accessory made of natural grapevine wood. The product includes two brown natural wood branches intended for hamsters, mice, gerbils, rats, and other small animals. The product is marketed as a climbing branch, habitat decoration, exercise toy, and chewable wood accessory. The listing describes it as natural wood, chewable, climbable, safe for chewing and gnawing, and suitable for placement inside a small animal enclosure. The selected size was 9.8 in. The product images describe the branch size as approximately 9 point 4 to 9 point 8 inches. The color is natural brown wood. The product consists of irregular natural branch shapes with knots and cut branch ends. The product purpose is to provide climbing, exercise, exploration, enrichment, and chewing for small animals inside a cage or enclosure. It is intended for direct contact with the animal and for chewing by the animal. The item I received was contaminated with visible mold or fungal growth while still associated with the packaging. The visible contamination was on or around the porous wood and packaging before any use.

I am reporting a mold contaminated small animal product sold for direct use inside a pet enclosure. The product was kathson 2Pcs Wood Hamster Climbing Branches Decor, ASIN B0GQ39X6ZX, sold by ywhfjck. It is marketed as a natural wood climbing and chewable accessory for hamsters and other small animals.

The product was purchased for intended use in a hamster enclosure as a climbable and chewable habitat accessory. When the package was opened on the day of delivery, before any use, the wood branches and surrounding packaging showed visible mold or fungal growth. The attached photos show white and gray fuzzy growth, dark staining, and clustered yellow and tan growth on or around the porous wood and packaging.

The product was not placed into the enclosure. The animal was not allowed to touch or chew it after the contamination was discovered. No injury occurred because exposure was prevented. However, the product could have caused exposure if used as intended, because it is porous natural wood intended for direct animal contact and chewing. A hamster or other small animal could inhale mold spores, contact the contaminated surface, or gnaw and ingest contaminated wood.

This is not a cosmetic defect. The contamination affected a chewable animal habitat product, and porous wood cannot be reliably cleaned or sanitized for safe animal chewing after visible mold growth is present. The product was therefore unsafe to use as intended.

I am also concerned this may not be isolated. Seller feedback for this product and seller showed multiple recent customer reports describing similar issues, including wood arriving soaking wet and moldy, covered in dirt and mold, wet and covered in mold, and covered in mildew or odor. Several entries also stated that the item was fulfilled by Amazon.

I am reporting this because visibly mold contaminated chewable wood products may still be reaching consumers and being placed in small animal habitats. I am requesting investigation into the product, seller, and any related inventory or variants.
