The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No incident, no one hurt

Made Jul 1, 2026, sent to the company Jul 16, 2026, published by CPSC Jul 30, 2026

The product, in the report: Hiddin Panel Gate with Door (Wall Attached). The product is intentionally clear, but includes a 6-inch step-over threshold that is invisible to the eye and poses a serious trip hazard--particularly when positioned at the top of a flight of stairs, as the company has advertised on its website. (“Perfect for top/bottom of stairs and hallways.”) https://shophiddin.com/collections/gates/products/panel-gate-with-door-wall-attached

I purchased a dog gate from Hiddin, LLC, a New Jersey registered LLC.

Upon receipt of the product in April, I was surprised to realize that the product has a design flaw that makes it dangerous and unsafe for the use for which it was advertised. I was outside of the return period but upon realizing that the product cannot be safely used as advertised, I asked if I could return or exchange it for a different product that would not pose a safety hazard to people in my home. The company has refused, leaving me with a very expensive product that I cannot safely use in my home.

The specific item I purchased is a dog gate that, when opened to step through, contains a 6 inch clear (intentionally invisible to the eye) edge that the user must step over. This is unsafe and cannot be reasonably used within a home.

The website listing for this specific product clearly says, “Perfect for top/bottom of stairs and hallways.” If used at the top of a set of stairs as advertised, the gate adds 6 inches to the height of the top stair, making it a hazard when going either up or down the stairs.

Based on the fact that the item cannot be safely used in my home (or likely any home) at the top of a flight of stairs as advertised, I asked that the company allow me to return the item for store credit. They have refused my request. In addition, I still have not received the correct installation hardware for the unit, and the company has informed me that if I use my own hardware, I will be voiding the warranty.

I request an investigation of this company’s practices with regard to its Panel Gate with Door (Wall Attached), as I believe it is designed in a defective manner that is reasonably likely to cause harm to consumers.
