Hurt, care not known Made Feb 26, 2017, sent to the company Mar 16, 2017, published by CPSC Mar 30, 2017
The product, in the report: Helen of Troy gold curling iron, 1 inch barrel, Hot Spot Tools, on/off switch, temperature gauge 280-450 degrees, model 1005, 120 VAC/60 Hz0.71A, Made in China, type UT1110N2WS, Intertek, conforms to ANSI/UL STD.859, 2001645
I’ve owned several Helen of Troy curling irons before. I purchased this one approximately 2 months ago. I’ve used it on average 4-5 times per week. I plugged in the iron and the temperature was set at 330 degrees. It warmed up for approximately 5 minutes. I took a small portion of my hair (which had no product on it) and slipped the barrel over the ends and within less than one turn of the barrel, the curling iron began smoking and burning my hair. I quickly and carefully tried to remove my hair (it was stuck to the barrel), and when I had done so, I proceeded to pull the plug out of the outlet and put my head beneath the faucet to stop the burning. A good deal of my hair was scattered all over the sink area and the hair on my head was singed and damaged.

The product, in the report: Helen of Troy Pro 1” Tangle Hot Air Brush
I was using this product and it blew up in my hand and burnt my wrist. I called Helen of Troy and I e-mailed them a copy of my wrist that was burned. They didn’t seem too concerned about my injury. They said to mail back the curling brush which I did. They had an engineer look over the damage and technically, I did not understand the concept of his answer. They mailed me another curling brush to pacify me and wanted me to sign a release form which I didn’t. I had them return the damaged brush to me. I hate to see this happen to someone else. It burnt my wrist and next time this happens, it could burn someone’s face. I feel this product should have some kind of warning on the box. I can e-mail you some pictures if you would like or the curling brush and my burnt wrist. My husband was in the bathroom when this happened and he couldn’t believe it fired up like that.
