Hurt, no treatment Made Jul 23, 2026, sent to the company Jul 27, 2026, published by CPSC Aug 10, 2026
The product, in the report: It’s a large conair hair dryer, in the rose gold color tone. I’ve owned it for at least 5 years. Model CD702GN.
I was using a Conair curling iron, model CD702GN, to curl my hair. I turned it on and noticed it wasn’t heating up, so I twisted up the heat dial. I didn’t notice at the time, but the heat setting was broken, allowing it to easily push substantially beyond the intended upper heat limit. I started curling my hair, and then it started getting weirdly hot. I hadn’t curled my hair for a while so I thought it was normal. When I got to the back of my head, I smelled something awful and tried to free the curl, and then the hair came off with the curling iron! It’s been a bit and my scalp still feels warm around that spot, and my hair is charred and falling out.

The product, in the report: CONAIR white and rose gold 1.5” curling iron Model CD703GN, serial number 1120MP
I was using a Conair curling iron Model CD703GN and after a couple of minutes it sparked and made a cracking noise and it blew the GFI outlet. My wrist was covered in black residue from the ‘explosion’ , but luckily I was not injured. However I could have easily been injured, I was just lucky. I called Conair and because I don’t have a receipt, they said they can’t help me and they can only offer me a 20% discount. They should have at least offered a replacement or compriable replacement.

The product, in the report: Conair volume volume volume self grip rollers
[REDACTED] hair rollers caused severe hair entanglement and loss during normal use. Hair became trapped in multiple rollers, requiring cutting hair out to remove them. During and after removal, I experienced scalp burning and pain. Following the incident, I developed a localized bald spot consistent with traction-related hair loss. No adequate warnings were provided regarding the risk of severe tangling, hair loss, scalp injury, or pain during normal use.

The product, in the report: Model: CD22WRS Number on plug: 4117GG Color: Purple Sparkle 1 inch barrel I couldn’t remember the name but I believe it is a “Conair Supreme”, after I Google image searched it, but customer service at Conair couldn’t find the model number even after I sent them pictures of the model number on the handle. They called it a “Curl Secret”, but it looks nothing like a Curl Secret in my opinion. The features are not Curl Secret features either.
I was helping my 6 year old daughter get ready for a Christmas event. I heated the curling iron for a few minutes until the red dot turned white on the shaft. The red light was also on because it was plugged in. I only used the curling iron a couple times before that for the few years I had it, so it was like brand new. I kept it stored in a dry place for the long periods I didn’t use it. It was undamaged in any way.
I didn’t have a lot of time, so I had only done a few curls going around the top layer of her hair. I was almost done when it suddenly exploded inside the handle. There was a loud pop & a spark. The handle glowed orange. My husband screamed for me to unplug it as I quickly unwrapped my daughter’s hair from it. I pulled the plug & set it down. My daughter ran away scared. Black smoke rolled out of it & I started coughing. We couldn’t leave for the event until we knew it wouldn’t catch our home on fire.

No incident, no one hurt Made Dec 26, 2025, sent to the company Jan 9, 2026, published by CPSC Jan 28, 2026
The product, in the report: Product is a Conair Double Ceramic 3-in-1 Hot Air Brush model BC171DG sold on Amazon.com
I wanted to report an ongoing issue with a Conair powered hair brush product with a faulty switch that eventually fails to shutoff and loses heat setting control that results with only a high heat output and emits a burning smell because I believe it warrants a safety issue. Product is a Conair Double Ceramic 3-in-1 Hot Air Brush model BC171DG, SN 0724. I, [REDACTED], purchased this new product from Amazon.com on 9/27/25 and am the only one that used product with no reported injuries. Switch failed within three weeks of received purchase under normal use. I immediately stopped using product upon failure to prevent any potential skin burning or electrical fire/shock occurrences. After reading Amazon customer reviews of this product, I found that there are many reviews indicating a switch failure with same symptoms dating back more than a year. There are Amazon reviews that also indicate that any received Conair product warranty replacement units also had exhibited a switch failure with same symptoms. I contacted Conair/Cuisinart Product Support on 12/15/25 about switch failure and was informed that there were no recalls issued on product, were aware of issue but were unaware of any corrective action being taken, and that the resolution was to unplug unit from wall in order to power OFF. MFG does not disclose product MFG date nor location information. I declined an offered warranty replacement unit in light of ongoing product issue.

The product, in the report: Conair Curling Iron Model CD701GN
My 14 year old daughter was using her Conair curling iron (model no. CD701GN), which she purchased on Jan. 30, 2023, when sparks flew from the handle and smoke started to come out of the handle. She unplugged it. It tripped the circuit. Not sure if the curling iron still works because I don’t want to find out. The iron was in perfect condition--no water damage or anything.

The product, in the report: Conair Infinity Pro hair straightner, color gray/graphite, 1 inch wide, dial to control temp which goes from 1 to 30.
On January 6th I was straightening my hair with my Con Air Infinity Pro hair straightener. I was sitting on the floor, with a blanket covering my legs. The heat setting was set to five out of of 30. I was almost done straughtening my hair. I was holding the straightner above my lap, when the iron made a big, bright spark, which looked like a 4th of July sparkler. It burned a hole through my blanket and burned my foot. The chord looks like it exploded on one side. Two days prior, on January 4th, I was straightening my hair and accidently touched my face. The burn seemed disproportionate to low setting (5). I currently have two nickel size burns on my lower cheek and jaw. It indicates the iron had stoppwd regulating the tempature atleast two days before the wire exoloded.

The product, in the report: Conair Rose Gold Titanium Curling Iron 1 inch barrel.
I was using my Conair curling iron as usual, on the 2nd to lowest setting, and on the 4th or 5th curl the iron suddenly smelled hot, smoked and burned a chunk of my hair, fried it and immediately removed the curling iron from the hair. When I touched that burned curl, it fell off in disintegrated chunks. It wasn’t touching my scalp, but as close as it was, I feel a slight burn, though no visible burn is indicated.

The product, in the report: Conair electric curler set
while using a Conair electric curler set, waiting for curler to heat up all of a sudden the metal inside started to smoke like the start of a fire. I happen to be standing next to the set and quickly unplugged it. The model number is CHV14K. If it wasn’t for me standing next to the set this could have caused a fire in my bedroom.
The last ten years I have had several hair dryers and curler sets malfunction. The previous curler set the electrical wire connected at the base sparked and turned black. I had a hair dryer spark at the wire and burn out. These were mostly the cheaper Conair brand sold at Kmart and Walmart.
So far I have been lucky and not been injured or had a fire. I do follow the safety instructions but it does not seem to matter.

The product, in the report: Conair Double Ceramic Curling Iron; 1 1/2” Curling Iron; White/Rose Gold
I purchased a Conair curling iron for an international trip based on the product description stating that it was dual voltage and made for international travel. When using for the first time the curling iron overheated to the point that it burned off two chunks of my hair. Much of my hair that didn’t burn completely off was damaged from the high heat. When one of the hunks landed on my wrist it also burned my skin. As I was on Amazon.com to make a return request I read some of the reviews that gave the product a low rating. There were many reports of burnt hair, flames coming from the handle it. This made me realize that my injury was not an isolated incident.

The product, in the report: Conair hair setter Model CHV14JX
There have been two incidents where this product has started smoking.
Incident #1 - this is a hot roller set. This item I had been using for quite a few months (not longer than a year). I had owned a previous unit and not had this problem. On this occasion, the unit started smoking along the metal rails where the curlers are placed. I immediately unplugged it and then disposed of it. However, because I had never had issues with the previous one I owned, I purchased another set.
Incident #2 - 4/19/17 - when I was about finished putting the rollers in my hair, I noticed that the plastic on one end of the curler had melted. I threw it away and had a spare from a previous set and put that in with this set. The following day I noticed that curlers along one of the metal rails were not being heated, and the curlers along the back rail were hot - and then the back rail started smoking so I unplugged and later disposed of it. That’s it for me and these curlers!

The product, in the report: Infiniti Pro,Curl Secret
I purchased the Conair Infiniti pro curl secret for my teen daughter, used it about three times. on Christmas Eve,we were going to do her hair for church service.Note:her hair is 3ft long. I divided the first 1” strand on her rt side of head as instructed.Unit sucked in hair as it should, stopped about 8” from scalp ,wouldn’t release her hair at all.She began crying because we thought I was going to have to cut her hair off that short to free her.I chose to break the machine instead by cutting it in half with a sawsall. I did that and spindle trapping hair still wouldn’t release. Then has her put her head on her desk ,shielding her face,I took a hammer to unit until spindle popped out, unwound her hair. She still lost art 1/3 of the 1” strand.it has a curl guide in it that caught her hair n sheared it like a scythe. This product needs to be recalled to have a safety release put on it,or a reverse.

The product, in the report: Conair ION shine electric curlers Model # CHV25Ir ID# 1103MP color blue and gray.
I own a Conair ION shine set of electric curlers, and have for over 8 years. Yesterday (September 28, 2016), I plugged in the curlers and returned no more than 10 minutes later. The curlers smelled like burning plastic. When I tried to remove a curler it was stuck to the base of the unit. I got one of the curlers out and the bottom was completed melted. I immediately unplugged the unit and when it cooled I could not remove any of curlers, as they were melted onto the unit. I contacted Conair today (September 29, 2016) and I was advised that the unit was out of warranty. I already knew this, and was contacting them on the safety issue of a potential fire hazard, not the question of warranty. I don’t know if you can do anything to assist me, mainly I wanted to go on record in case anyone else had this issue. Thank you

The product, in the report: Conair “Extreme Big Curls”. It is a white and turquoise case with a clear top. The curlers are turquoise with grey foam padding.
I have this set of Conair hot rollers for 1 year and they have worked well. I went to put them into my hair after heating them as normal. I burnt my hands as I pulled out the plastic and metal roller which was melting in my hand. The rollers in the front row were melting and expanding, making a cracking noise. There was hot melted plastic in the heating case and on my hand. They were extremely hot. The curlers in the back row were the regular temperature, perhaps even a little cooler than normal. I contacted Conair and they were only interested in telling me that they were no longer under warantee and could not help me. They were not interested that this had happened and was a safety hazard.

The product, in the report: hand held, electric hair curlers Infinity Pro Conair (Info found on cord) AWM E141875 Style 20812 VW-1 20
On approximately 12/20/13, the consumer sustained burns while using the hand held hair curlers. The curler has settings of 310, 330, 360 & 400 degrees.
The curler had been plugged into the outlet for approximately 5 minutes and on the 330 degree setting, when the consumer started to use it. However, the handle and the plastic tip of the curler became extremely hot to the touch. The curler was so hot that it burned both of the consumer’s hands. The consumer was holding the curler’s handle with her left hand and she attempted to grab the other tip of the curler with her right thumb and index finger. The extreme heat caused the consumer to drop the curler and it hit her on the chest. The consumer sustained a severe burn to her chest, approximately 3-1/2” long. The curler then bounced on the and gouged the floor (approx. 1” long). The consumer picked up the curler a few seconds after it fell (approx. 5 - 15 sec.) by holding the power cord. She placed it in the sink, turned the power off and unplugged it from the outlet. The consumer discontinued use of the curlers
The consumer applied [REDACTED] to her burns. The burns on her chest lasted approximately 2 months and she said at one point, the burn opened up and puss came out of it.
(12/2013) The consumer called the manufacturer and she was advised to send the curler back to them by mail.
The consumer received a letter back from the mfr. on 12/26/13 and it contained a label to cover the cost of shipping the curler back to them.
The consumer sent the curler back to the mfr. for testing.
The consumer received a letter 1/15/2014 and it indicated that they had tested the product. Their engineers found the curler to be operating in the correct range and they did not experience the problem she indicated. The curler was also returned to the consumer.
The consumer has been in contact with [REDACTED], Mfr’s Claims Administratror. However, during a subsequent call, the consumer was told by [REDACTED] that she would have to speak with someone else. The consumer asked [REDACTED] if she was an administrator and the consumer said that she no longer answered that question.
Over, the past months, consumer received 5 letters from the manufacturer relating to this issue.
The consumer contacted WTMJ News Station (Call for Consumer Action), and spoke with [REDACTED] (last name unknown). Tel: 414-967-5495, Milwaukee, WI. [REDACTED] also asked the consumer some questions similar to filing a report. [REDACTED suggested that the consumer contact the CPSC.
(4/17/2014) The consumer received a settlement letter from the manufacturer, releasing them from all claims. The settlement was for $250. The consumer has not signed that letter.
The consumer said she has an $850 bathroom floor and the amount of the settlement does not cover the cost of damage to the floor. The consumer said that she was not sure of the type of flooring in her bathroom. The consumer believes that the news station contact to the firm may have been a factor in the settlement offer. Even though the consumer contacted the firm in December 2013, she did not get the settlement letter until 4/17/2014.
The tip of the barrel is hard plastic and the consumer said it was extremely hot and it should not have been
The consumer sent the curler back to the firm twice and they tested it the first time and returned it to her. The consumer said that when the curler was returned to her, the tag with the watts, volts and other information was no longer there.
* 1112MP5 is written on the curler’s metal prong * E52826 is written on the electric cord itself

I bought my wife a Conair ION Hot Hair Rollers. This product is less than one year old. One morning about a week ago I heard something making a popping noise. We were not sure what it was. Than I smelled something and went toward the bathroom to investigate.
Thats when I discovered the Conair Hair Rollers were on fire and blazing. I unplugged and tried to put out the fire. As the rollers were still blazing I picked up the conair and ran out the back door to keep from catching the bathroom on fire.
I reported this to Conair by email over a week ago and am amazed that no one has called or emailed me back concerning this matter.

The product, in the report: Conair curling iron model M120.
Wife recently purchased a Conair Curling Iron Model M120. Using it yesterday, she brushed it up against her cheek and received a significant electrical shock. I examined the unit this morning and found that the cord insulation is cracked exposing both electical conductors where the cord enters the swivel mount for the cord. This appears to pose a significant safety hazard to those using the device as well as the possibility of a fire. The device says it is UL Listed. Photos of the device and the cracked cord are available as is the device itself.
