The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Sep 15, 2026, sent to the company Sep 18, 2026, published by CPSC Oct 3, 2026

The product, in the report: Bio lonic One-Inch-Long Barrel Curling Iron (Model LXT-CL-1.0).

1 am reporting a severe structural and safety failure of a Bio lonic One-Inch-Long Barrel Curling Iron. While I was actively styling my hair with the unit plugged in, the heated barrel snapped completely off the handle. This identical failure mechanism is the subject of a federal safety recall (CPSC Recall 26-021) for units manufactured between 2022 and 2023 [CPSC Recall Announcement]. My unit features a date code of 0424 (manufactured April 2024), indicating that the dangerous barrel-detachment defect continues to persist in units manufactured well outside the original recall window. The tool failed during normal, active operation, creating an immediate burn and fire hazard.

The product, in the report: Bio Ionic 1 Inch Long Barrel Curling Iron, black/blue

While using my 1 inch Bio Ionic Long Barrel Curling Iron on the highest temperature, the barrel snapped and detached from the handle. Luckily, I was not injured, but it was incredibly dangerous. I looked online and found that a recall had been issued in October 2025 for the exact same model, however, mine did not fall within the date range but was four months after the 1223 cutoff (mine is 0424). I have reached out to customer support but do not expect a replacement product since the date is not within the correct range.

Made Jun 16, 2026, sent to the company Jun 22, 2026, published by CPSC Jul 8, 2026

The product, in the report: Bio Ionic One-Inch Long Barrel Curling Iron (Model LXT-CL-1.0), a corded electric hair styling appliance used to curl hair. The product has a black handle, black long barrel, spring clamp, adjustable temperature controls, and a swivel power cord. The unit involved in this incident has a date code of 0724. During normal use, the heated barrel separated from the handle, exposing internal wiring and electrical components.

I am reporting a potential safety hazard involving a Bio Ionic Long Barrel Curling Iron.

While using the curling iron during normal personal use at home, the barrel suddenly separated from the handle at the connection point. The product was powered on, heated, and actively being used to curl hair when the failure occurred. The separation exposed internal wiring and electrical components.

I was the person using the product at the time of the incident. The curling iron was being used in accordance with its intended purpose and had not been modified, dropped immediately before the incident, or subjected to unusual use.

Fortunately, no physical injury occurred because I caught the detached barrel before it contacted my skin. However, the failure created a significant risk of burns and potential electrical injury because the heated barrel detached unexpectedly while the product was energized and in use.

After the incident, I photographed the product showing the separation and exposed internal wiring. I contacted the manufacturer, Bio Ionic, and provided photographs of the failure. The manufacturer stated that my model was not included in a previous recall and declined to provide a replacement because the product was outside the warranty period.

I am submitting this report because a heated hair styling appliance should not separate during normal use, and I believe this failure presents a potential safety hazard to consumers.

The product, in the report: Bioionic Long Barrel Curling Iron, black curling iron, 1inch barrel, heats up to 420-30 degrees.

During regular use (curling hair) the bioionic long barrel curling iron complete broke at the main handle/base and left hot portion to fall, wires hanging out and it can’t be reattached to safely use the item. The item still heats up, yet the barrel is fully broken off from the base. The item was at 350 degrees when this occurred and still can heat to 420 degrees.. yet handle is not able to hold the hot tool. The was very random, the plastic just snapped off right at the base. Company has a recall of this item, yet it seems that the item I have is 1 month prior (manufactured date) prior... my concern is that the recall is not all the proper dates, as my 06/22 had the same issues as the recalled 07/22.

The product, in the report: Bioionic long barrel curling iron.

My daughter was using a curling iron when the tip of the barrel suddenly broke off during normal use. The detached piece caused the device to fall and resulted in a significant burn injury to her hand. The product was being used as intended, and the failure appears to be due to a manufacturing defect. I submitted all required documentation to the company, including photos of the injury, proof of purchase, and a detailed account of the incident. Despite this, the company has refused to resolve the issue unless I return the productwhich I am retaining as evidence of the defect and injury.

The product, in the report: 1 inch long barrel curling iron black with blue accents

I purchased a Bio Ionic 1 Long Barrel Curling Iron (model LXT-CL-1.0) which is a recalled product. The barrel detached during a hair service on a client, which created a safety hazard. I discarded the tool after the failure because it was unsafe.

I contacted Bio Ionic to participate in the recall, but they refused to help because I no longer have the physical unit to verify the date code. The recall was publicly issued due to this exact safety defect, and I am a licensed stylist and a [REDACTED] employee who is fully aware this was the recalled model.

I am reporting this incident because the brand is refusing to honor the recall for a dangerous unit that failed in use.

The product, in the report: Bio Ionic Model LXT-CL-1.25 - - Long Barrel, 1.25” diameter - Black

I have a Bio Ionic curling iron that has snapped in half mid-curling (at the hottest temperature). I was not injured, but I tried to report my product when I saw there was a recall. However, the model I have is a 1.25” diameter barrel and the recall is for the 1.00” diameter barrel. I held onto the product because, even though it was broken, it is my favorite curling iron and very expensive, and I thought there might be a way to repair it. When I saw that there was a recall on the product, I reached out to Bio Ionic to take care of the issue, they refused, stating that the recall is not for the product I have. I am very unhappy considering more than just the 1.00” product is having the same issue. Their PRODUCTS are bad, not just that model.
