  1. No one hurt

Made Oct 28, 2014, sent to the company Nov 5, 2014, published by CPSC Nov 24, 2014

The product, in the report: The product was a hair straightener by the brand AbsolutHeat. It is all black and features a turn dial on the inside to gauge the amount of heat.

I was using a hair straightener and I noticed a hissing sound when I put it on the counter top. No water or any substance was near the product at the time. I went to use it again and the straightener sparked up making a loud cracking noise, similar to a firework. It gave off a burning smell afterwards. I unplugged it immediately and discontinued use. No injuries were evident, but may be problematic for other consumers.
