I purchased the Prosonic Exfoliating brush in the spring, I had only used it roughly 15 times. Yesterday, while in the shower, it literally exploded in my hand while I was using it on my face. I saw a flash and it made a huge explosion sound (like a gunshot). The explosion seriously damaged the hearing in my right ear. It has now been 24hours after the incident and my ear still hurts, and I cannot hear properly.
This is not the first incident of this time. The reviews on Amazon.com (which I wish I would have read before purchasing!) are full of similar incident with similar outcomes.
This product is HIGHLY dangerous. I am thankful that I was not submerged in water, but god forbid if a child were to be playing with something like this and it exploded on them!

Hurt, no treatment Made Jul 8, 2013, sent to the company Jul 16, 2013, published by CPSC Jul 30, 2013
The product, in the report: A handheld personal face exfoliating machine.
I purchased the Prosonic facial cleanser in December 2012. I usually used it daily for the past six months and this morning when using it, it exploded in my hand right by my ear and while on my face. The explosion made me drop the unit and cover my ears as they were ringing and still are. I picked up the unit again to try and turn it off, but it wouldn’t turn off as the on/off button and the settings button were melted and blown out; however, it eventually stopped after about 10 minutes.
This happened at 7:50 PST this morning and I am still quite dizzy, shaken up and have a slight ringing in my ear.
I have read that this happened to a lot of other people, and when I bought my unit I also read this, but unfortunately didn’t think much of it. Two of my friends purchased this at the same time and I’ve told them to stop using it. It appears that it’s the batch of q4 2012, but who knows. Very dissatisfied and alarmed that this type of product is on the market with so many complaints of the same thing.
A refunded machine will not make up for my hearing.

Hurt, no treatment Made Feb 28, 2013, sent to the company May 23, 2013, published by CPSC Jun 14, 2013
The product, in the report: Prosonic Cleansing and Exfoliation System - Face and Body - pink
The Prosonic Cleansing and Exfoliating System manual states that it is waterproof and may be used in the shower. I was using the device to clean my face and noticed some stinging. After that the brush almost exploded with sparks coming out the off /on switches in the handle. Dangerous as it was right near my eye. I didn’t have much besides a couple of very small scratches, but the sound of the small explosion was enough to make both of my ears ring and one feel congested until the next day.

Seen by a doctor or nurse Made Jan 7, 2013, sent to the company May 23, 2013, published by CPSC Jun 14, 2013
The product, in the report: Hand held rechargeable battery operated device. The Prosonic Cleansing and Exfoliation System for Face & Body has a rotating brush to clean off dead skin and stimulate your skin.
I was using the Prosonic Cleansing & Exfoliation System brush I had recently purchased. I was holding it in my right hand and had it turned on for less than ten seconds and was using it on my neck when it exploded in my hand. There was a loud bang, like a gun shot, I think. I had shooting electric shock waves up my arm and a strong burning smell. I could not hear for several seconds and one day later still have some ringing in my ears. My neck was bright red and the palm of my hand, too. My daughter ran upstairs and said it smelled like something burning. WE have collected and saved all the pieces. The device blew apart along its seams so no piece is actually broken. WE have contacted the website and phone number of the manufacturer’s representative who asked us to return the device but i am trying to find someone to look at it before I return it. If I had been using it on my cheek or forehead I could have seriously damaged my eyes!

First aid Made Jan 6, 2013, sent to the company May 23, 2013, published by CPSC Jun 7, 2013
The product, in the report: The ProSonic cleansing and exfoliating system for the face and body. It’s the pink version of the brush. The only model number listed on the product is found on the charger and it is: IVP045-120-0300. The following information I found on the website: MH ID: 140614; Brand: ProSonic; Model No: ProSonic Face Brush
I was washing my face with a ProSonic cleansing system made by the ORA company while in the shower Saturday morning. While I was using the brush it exploded making a loud sound almost like a gun shot. I saw a spark and 6 metal pieces came through the rubber button covers on the brush and hit me in my neck. I immediately dropped the brush outside of the shower and got out. Both of my ears starting ringing and as of 6:40P.M. on Sunday night my right ear hasn’t stopped. I have an exact imprint of one of the metal pieces on my neck and have dots where the other pieces hit. I was very lucky the explosion happened when it did, because had it been anywhere near my eye I most likely would have been blinded. The instructions clearly state that the brush is waterproof and can be used in the bathtub and shower. I have pictures of the brush, the metal pieces and my neck.
