Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Large red umbrella, the type that tilts and sits in a weighted base

On May14th I set up a small pool for my grandson, to protect him from the sun, I also put up a shade umbrella. It’s quite large and is the kind that tilts, it also has a weighted stand to help secure the pole. The weather was hot but not windy just a normal breeze. My husband and I where sitting in loungers by the pool watching my grandson play, he is 3 yrs old. When suddenly without warning the umbrella fell over. Again no wind just a breeze. One of the spikes on the umbrella hit me on the right side of my chest, knocking the wind out of me. A week later I am still in a lot of pain. Had the umbrella hit my grandson it could have killed him, or had it hit me in the head I believe my injury would be far worse. I was under the impression that buying an umbrella with a weighted base would be safe. Of course had it been a windy day I would have thought twice about using the umbrella, however like I said it was barley a breezy day.
