The product, in the report: Wrangler Relaxed Fit Jean Shorts
Product: Wrangler Jeans Issue: Defective waistband button
I bought a pair of Wrangler Relaxed Fit Jean Shorts at Target Stores in Houston Texas last week. Yesterday I put them on and was buttoning the waistband button when the button flew off and the spike (inserted from the back of the waistband) onto which the button is supposed to be permanently attached punctured/lacerated my right index finger. The button looks like it’s metal, but it’s actually metal-clad plastic. The backing spike (which works like a woman’s earring) is razor-sharp metal, and was obviously intended to be permanently secured to the button.
I’ll live, but the potential for serious injury is there because the spike is so very sharp and users will apply sometimes great pressure on the button to secure the waistband, which lends itself to the potential for very serious puncture and laceration wounds.
I phoned VF/Wrangler and left a message reporting the defect and the injury, and said they need to look into this issue for the public safety. I received a return call, but missed it, and was left a message about receiving a shipping label to return the product to VF/Wrangler. I called them again 45 minutes before they close today, 10/15 at 5PM ET, asking them to call me back before that time. I have not received the return call, so I go ahead and file this report.
