The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. Emergency room

Made Sep 13, 2012, sent to the company Oct 17, 2012, published by CPSC Oct 31, 2012

The product, in the report: Gymboree Flora Shirt, Size 7 Country Where Clothing was made: China Fabric Type:100% Cotton Color(s)/Design of Shirt: Floral The front of the tag has the following numbers: RN70530/CA31802 The reverse side has the following numbers: 11GY SWIM 2 240802 795 140075 385

The shirt was purchased on September 1, 2012 at Gymboree at the Somerset Collection in Troy, MI. The 6 year old daughter wore the shirt for the first time on September 4, 2012. It was never washed. The shirt’s material was very thin.

The girl was standing/kneeling on the kitchen counter next to the electric coiled stove. Water was boiling on the stove. The burner was on the medium/high level. When she tried to get down off the counter, the left side of her shirt caught on fire near her waist, emitting flames 6”-8”. The flames seemed to spread rapidly. The mother tried to extinguish the flames by patting her daughter but the flames continued. The father quickly pulled the shirt over his daughter’s head.

The girl sustained second degree burns on her left side, under her arm pit , breast, and extending to her back.

The product, in the report: Gymboree Shortalls Size 12-18 months

I recently purchased a pair of size 12-18 month shorts-length overalls from Gymboree. The item number on the tag is RN70530/CA31802. The overalls are made of denim and have a green car on the front pocket and green, blue and yellow cars on the shoulder straps. The straps attach to the bib via large metal snaps. I washed the overalls once before adding them to my son’s clothing. When my husband attempted to use them the snap on the left side of the bib separated, with the cover of the snap staying on the bib and the inner pat of the snap remaining attached to the strap. Luckily my husband noticed this right away before my son was able to get the snap cover into his mouth. I am concerned that this defect poses a chocking hazard. I have taken a photo of the item showing the tag and the snap. I will be attempting to return the overalls to the store for credit.
