Seen by a doctor or nurse Made Oct 6, 2026, sent to the company Oct 9, 2026, published by CPSC Oct 26, 2026
The product, in the report: Apple Watch SE 3 GPS, 44 mm, Midnight color, Aluminum, with an Apple Midnight Sport Band size M/L. The watch is a wearable smartwatch designed to be worn on the wrist for normal everyday use. A skin reaction developed on the wrist in the area where the watch and band contacted my skin.
I was using an Apple Watch normally when I developed a significant skin reaction on my wrist where the watch and band contacted my skin. The area developed itching, burning, bumps, pain, scaling, and bleeding, causing me to stop wearing the watch.
I sought medical care and was diagnosed with contact dermatitis and prescribed treatment. I have photographs and medical documentation of the reaction.
I reported the incident to Apple, which escalated the matter to Senior Customer Relations and consulted Engineering. Apple stated that it did not consider this a product safety issue and offered a replacement band as its final resolution.
I am reporting this incident so the injury and circumstances can be documented and evaluated by the appropriate consumer product safety authority.

Hurt, care not known Made Sep 18, 2026, sent to the company Sep 23, 2026, published by CPSC Oct 7, 2026
The product, in the report: Apple Watch Series 10 Hermes (smartwatch)
While wearing the Apple Watch Series 10 Hermes on my wrist, the device caused a burn injury at the point where the watch face made contact with my skin. This happened when I was sleeping and I noticed the burn in the morning upon awakening.
I contacted Apple Support and filed a formal safety incident report, including photographs of the injury and the device. Apple’s representative referred to the injury as “skin irritation” rather than acknowledging it as a burn, and declined to offer a refund or replacement. Their suggested remedies were to change the watch band or purchase a third-party case to prevent the device from contacting my skin directly, rather than addressing the device’s heat/burn hazard itself.
I am filing this report to document the injury and the device’s failure to safely make skin contact during normal use, and Apple’s response to the safety claim.

The product, in the report: apple iWatch SE. rose gold
I have an Apple Watch SE. we set it to charge and could smell burning, this was in a hotel room, and luckily it was during the day. realized it was the watch and charger as the watch had overheated and came up with a overheating warning and the charger had fully melted. contacted apple who really didn’t seem to care. now the watch does not hold a charge at all. seems like almost burning down a hotel is not a safety issue to them and the downstream effect of the battery not holding a charge is now an issue.

First aid Made Jun 16, 2026, sent to the company Jun 22, 2026, published by CPSC Jul 8, 2026
The product, in the report: Apple watch series 11 GPS
I purchased an Apple Watch Series 11 on May 8th, 2026, along with an upgraded band. The upgraded band was too tight, so I went back to the Oakbrook, IL apple store where I bought the watch and requested a replacement on May 17th, 2026. They provided the default adjustable rubber band (the sale man says this fits the size). After using the default band, within three days I started experiencing itching and noticed a rash on my wrist where the watch was worn. I switched the watch from my left hand to my right hand, but the same issue occurred. Now both of my wrists have developed irritation and a burning sensation due to the itching. I reported this issue to Apple Customer Care. During my first call, the representative mentioned that I was already in the process of getting a replacement band. I requested to speak with a manager to ensure the incident was properly documented. The manager escalated the issue. I am reporting this as a safety concern

The product, in the report: Apple watch series 6 SE
I was wearing an Apple watch and noticed a sharp pain on my wrist. I removed the watch and the sensor dome had burst into shards of glass which lacerated my wrist. I reported this to Apple who has refused to do anything or even acknowledge that there is a defect. They want it treated as physical damage only in spite of it being a clear product failure resulting in injury.

Emergency room Made Aug 15, 2025, sent to the company Aug 20, 2025, published by CPSC Sep 4, 2025
The product, in the report: Apple Watch Series 9 GPS, 45mm Starlight Aluminum Case with Gold Milanese Loop band. The Milanese Loop is a stainless steel mesh watch band with a magnetic closure, made of 80% recycled stainless steel with a PVD coating. The band is adjustable and designed to wrap fully around the wrist. The 45mm case houses the Apple Watch Series 9 display and hardware. The bands fine mesh construction can trap liquid and remains in direct contact with the skin around the wrist
On August 7, 2025, I was wearing an Apple Watch Series 9 with Gold Milanese Loop band while making coffee using a small French press. As I pressed the plunger, the press leaked and sprayed hot coffee onto multiple areas of my body my face, chest, hip, and left wrist. All areas except my wrist sustained only minor, likely first-degree burns. However, the burn under the Milanese Loop band was immediate, deep, and severe. The stainless steel mesh rapidly conducted heat and trapped the scalding liquid against my skin. Despite my husband removing the band within seconds, the damage was already done. Within minutes, a large blister formed on my inner wrist. Over the next few days, the burn worsened, eventually becoming infected. On August 13, 2025 (day 6), I went to [REDACTED] Medical Center in [REDACTED], where I was prescribed antibiotics and referred to a burn unit specialist. Due to cost, I have not been able to attend the specialist appointment. I believe the material properties and design of the Milanese Loop band greatly increased the severity of my injury compared to Apples other band materials. Stainless steel has a high thermal conductivity (~1416 W/mK) and effusivity (~8000 J/mKs), which causes instant heat transfer to skin. The mesh design retains hot liquid in contact with skin longer, delaying cooling and worsening burns. Apples other band materials (silicone, woven nylon, braided loop, leather) take significantly longer to reach skin burn thresholds and do not trap liquid in the same way. This hazard is especially concerning because watch bands are worn on the wrist/forearm areas frequently used when cooking, pouring hot drinks, or working near steam. In my case, the same liquid exposure caused only minor burns to unbanded skin but a deep partial-thickness (second-degree) burn under the Milanese Loop band.

Apple watch (Ultra 2) heated up on my wrist last night waking me up from a deep sleep around 1:30am, it left what looks like a round burn and a shiny sore mark on my wrist--I was wearing the watch on my wrist with no apps running. I reported to Apple and have been getting the run around and may get an immediate replacement if I skip their safety review that leaves me at their leisure--regardless of their warranty.

The product, in the report: WATCH SERIES 8 (GPS) ALUM 41MM, Black dial
I am reporting a safety concern regarding my Apple Watch.
While working out in my gym, I noticed that my Apple Watch started leaking a blue liquid onto my skin and clothing. It stained my T-shirt and left a large blue blotch on my thigh. I immediately went to the Apple Store Genius Bar at the [REDACTED] location in NYC, where I was assisted by an employee named [REDACTED].
[REDACTED] examined the watch and initially said, Well, there is no leaking right now, so there is nothing we can do. When I asked if this problem had ever been reported or if she was aware of it, she replied, Personally, I have never heard of it. I expressed concern that her response seemed dismissive. When I showed her similar cases found through an online search, she dismissed it by saying that was generative AI and not accurate.
I insisted that they address the issue. [REDACTED] said if I wanted to buy another watch, they could offer me a 10% discount. She brought over her manager, who told me they would file a safety concern report. I provided details about where the incident happened (a basement gym, not exposed to sunlight) and showed photos of the damage to my skin and clothing. [REDACTED] said I would receive a copy of the report I have never received it and now assume it may never have been filed.
Later that week, Apple tech support called me ([REDACTED] from Texas) and requested photos. On the following Monday, [REDACTED] called again and told me it was just a water leak. When I asked why the liquid was blue, he said he wasnt a chemist but was sure it wasnt a battery leak because the screen wasnt broken. I also told him that one night the screen had felt cracked when I stepped outside in cold weather but by the next morning, it appeared normal. [REDACTED] insisted that because the screen was intact and because the liquid amount appeared to be a lot in the photos, it could not be a battery leak. I questioned how he could determine the liquid amount from photos alone, but he stood by this conclusion.
Additionally, every time I touched the watch, I experienced a consistent heat or burning sensation on my finger. At first, I thought I might be imagining it, but it happened repeatedly.
While Apple has now asked me to send the watch in for repair, I feel that at every stage especially at the store I was stonewalled and not given proper assistance. [REDACTED] even tried to send me home initially, saying there was nothing they could do since the watch was no longer actively leaking.
I am filing this report because I believe this may represent a potential safety hazard involving the watchs battery or internal components, and I want this formally documented with the appropriate consumer protection authorities.

No one hurt Made Dec 18, 2024, sent to the company Jan 7, 2025, published by CPSC Jan 23, 2025
The product, in the report: Wristband on Apple Watches
Subject: Request for Investigation and Recall of Apple Watch Bands Containing PFAS
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to formally request that the Consumer Product Safety Commission investigate the health risks posed by certain Apple Watch bands due to the presence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), as detailed in the recent study published in [REDACTED]. This study highlights significant concerns regarding dermal exposure to these forever chemicals, which are linked to severe health risks, including cancer, liver damage, and immune system disruption.
[REDACTED]
Background on the Study
The study analyzed 22 smartwatch wristbands, including those made from materials such as fluoroelastomers, which are commonly used in Apple Watch Sport Bands. Findings included: 1. High PFAS Concentrations: Wristbands made from fluorinated synthetic rubber, such as fluoroelastomers, exhibited high levels of PFAS, specifically perfluorohexanoic acid (PFHxA). 2. Prolonged Skin Contact Risks: The prolonged skin contact these bands facilitate may lead to dermal absorption of PFAS, a route of exposure that contributes to bioaccumulation and long-term health risks. 3. Carcinogenic and Toxic Effects: PFAS have been linked to increased risks of cancer, liver toxicity, and immune system impairments, even at low levels of exposure.
Health and Safety Concerns
Apple has not publicly disclosed whether their watch bands contain PFAS, nor have they provided assurances regarding the safety of these materials for extended skin contact. Given the increasing evidence of the harmful effects of PFAS, this lack of transparency poses a significant risk to public health.
Request for Action
I respectfully request that the CPSC take the following actions: 1. Investigate: Conduct a thorough investigation into the materials used in Apple Watch bands, particularly those made of fluoroelastomers. 2. Testing: Require Apple to disclose detailed information regarding the chemical composition of their products and conduct independent testing to confirm the presence of PFAS. 3. Recall: Issue a recall for affected products if they are found to contain harmful levels of PFAS. 4. Public Notification: Ensure Apple provides clear information to consumers about the risks associated with PFAS in their products and offers safer alternatives.
Conclusion
Millions of consumers wear these bands daily, assuming they are safe. The CPSC has a critical role in protecting public health and safety, and I urge you to prioritize this issue. I am happy to provide additional information or support further investigation as needed.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
[REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Apple Watch 9. Version 10.5 (21T576). Capacity 64 GB.
Apple Watch 9 irritates my wrist under the sensors and leaves painful and itchy red marks. Apple claims that it is a cleanliness issue. However, I have been wearing Apple Watches for several years, including series 3 and 7, and have never had a problem in the past. I clean the watch and my wrist thoroughly several times a day. I have no allergies to anything on or in the watch. I think something is wrong with the sensors. This happens whenever I wear the watch and the irritation starts about 6 or 7 hours after putting it on. I put the estimated date below, but this is not a one time occurrence. It happens all the time.

She stated that she received a reference number from the company and they informed her that someone would be in touch with her.
Caller stated that there has been numerous reports on these watches and feels that they are a health hazard and should be reported.
Follow-up: Apple will not do anything. I purchased a leather band. They will not trimburse.

The product, in the report: Apple Watch 3
I’ve been wearing an Apple Watch for several yearss. 2 weeks ago the watch created 3 painful blisters that lined up exactly with the dots on the back of the Watch. This is an Apple Watch 3. Reported to Apple and discussed with their safety team who dismissed this was a hardware issue and suggested I speak with a dermatologist. Photographs, which I sent to Apple clearly show damage caused by wearing the watch. Escalated complaint with Apple who still stand by their “not a problem” statement.

The product, in the report: Apple Watch 3, 42mm, GPS no Cellular
I purchased a third generation Apple 3 watch on July 13 of this year from Walmart.com. After approximately 3 weeks of gentle use, the glass face of the watch separated from the aluminum housing unexpectedly due to unknown defect in mfg., quality or design. It did not separate as in a mechanical joint between the housing and face failed but failed as in a crack formed in the radius of the glass face around the perimeter leaving a razor sharp glass edge exposed. I was working at my desk when the separated portion of the glass face broke away without my knowledge tethered by the remains of the interface cable. I became aware of the failure when I felt the glass face cut me on the wrist just forward of my watch wearing position. I immediately contacted Apple and notified them of the failure and injury. After initially asking me to return the watch for repair and examination under warranty I was contacted a few days later and told this defect was not their problem and i could either pay them to fix it (more than the value of the watch) or they would be happy to recycle it for me. I elected to have it returned and would be happy to provide it to the CPSC for further investigation. My injury was not severe; a small bleeding cut but it could have been much worse and I expect I am not the only consumer this has happened to. This is a dangerous product and the manufacturer is not taking responsibility for this defect.

The product, in the report: Apple Watch Series 4
Burned by my Apple Watch 4:
I purchased a new Apple Watch directly from Apple on 9/15/18, and received the watch on 9/26. I wore it happily and without incident until 2/19/19. I went for a run on the afternoon of 2/18/19 with my Apple Watch as usual. I didn’t notice anything unusual with the watch and didn’t do anything unusual with the watch. I took a shower with it on when I got home, cleaned and the inside of the band and the back of it after my shower and put it on the charger for ~4-5 hours. I put it back on when just before I went to bed because I use it as an alarm clock because there is a setting that wakes you by vibration rather than by an audible alarm. I woke on 2/19/19 and didn’t really notice specific discomfort as I rushed to get ready for work. While walking the dog, I did notice that my wrist felt sensitive under my watch and just felt odd. When I got to work, I felt discomfort and a burning sensation. I took off the watch and noticed red marks that looked like a first degree burn. I left the watch off, and the burn continued to worsen over the next 24 hours. It blistered, and the blister ultimately popped. As of 2/22/19 there is still redness (especially where the blister was where there is now a sore), but it is healing.
I initiated a chat with Apple via their website on 2/20 to report the issue. The representative set up an appointment for me to talk to someone in Safety the next day. The next day (2/21) someone from the Technology trouble shooting team called, and then they connected me with [REDACTED] from Apple’s Safety team. [REDACTED] was very friendly and collected the above information and asked many other questions. I explained that I never felt a burning sensation so bad that I had to rip the watch off. I explained that it seemed like it partially happened while I slept during the night of 2/18-19, and partially on the morning on 2/19 when I felt the burning/discomfort sensation.
[REDACTED] sent me a link and asked me to upload photos of the watch and my wrist to an Apple Customer Service site. I did so on 2/21. On 2/22 [REDACTED] called to follow up. He stated that he had not yet read the report from the technical team, did so in less than a minute with me on the line and stated that the determination was that the injury could not have come from a burn. He said that it was consistent with a reaction to the watch materials. He also stated that I am not eligible for a refund (despite having purchased the Apple Care Warranty) – and stated that the problem is with me and my skin and how it reacts to the materials in the watch as opposed to a problem with the materials in the watch or overheating.
There are quite a few similar complaints on Apple’s own discussion sites (along with pictures), and similar stories reported in the media. However, Apple has still not issued a recall, and does not seem to be taking the issue seriously.

The product, in the report: Apple iWatch
I was wearing my Apple Watch all day and when I removed it, found that I had a small burn on my wrist, directly beneath the sensoring watch case. This is concerning because the watch has sleep sensors and is assumed that one should wear to bed and overnight for monitoring. I believe the burn occurred while I was napping and I didn’t feel a sharp pain when the burn occurred. Please note that I’ve had the watch since September of 2017 and have had no issues. I reached out to Apple Support, completed a comprehensive battery of questions, sent pictures and was told I would be contacted. I was told to stop wearing the watch for my safety. Four days later, I was contacted, by a different Support Agent, once again completed the same comprehensive list of questions and resubmitted the old pictures, as well as new pictures. Apple ran a diagnostic test, through my Apple phone for my watch and said that they could find no defect. They suggested that I “thoroughly clean my watch”- but never said it was safe to wear. The offered no replacement and made no offer to test the equipment. I am completely frustrated, and upset that I’ve been dismissed.

I was wearing the watch as I do each day. We had been doing a bit of wading in the water at a waterpark. The watch was not submerged but in case, I had it in water mode. We came back to our hotel room, ate lunch and I was putting my toddler to sleep when I felt my watch cut my chin when I brushed my hair out of my face. I looked down at my Apple Watch and realized that the screen had completely come off the back of the watch. I did not bump it or do anything. The screen edges were sharp and cut my chin. The cut was minor but I was putting my little one to sleep and am very thankful the watch did not cut her.
I contacted Apple. They reported similar reports but no indication as to cause. A watch should not fall apart like this!!!! It is very dangerous! They are fixing it, “because there was no point of contact thst would have broken the watch.”
I was supposed to have followup from Apples safety dept but heard nothing, which is concerning.
