The product, in the report: Glow Swizzle Bracelet from Oriental Trading Company - Item #24/1442

Oriental Trading Company - Glow Swizzle Bracelet - Item #24/1442

On Saturday, 4/27/24, my 3-year-old son picked up this item from our entertainment console. He was not handling it in any aggressive fashion, but the item snapped and splashed its internal contents all over his face. He screamed in pain about his left eye. He set the glow stick back down on the table and the liquid oozed out and quickly deteriorated the varnish and paint within seconds (as pictured below). The smell of the liquid was overwhelming, like paint thinner. I immediately began cleaning his face and irrigating his eye the best I could, and contacted the Poison Control Center. They advised us to irrigate his eye for 15-30 minutes in the bathtub, which we did. The experience was very painful and traumatic for a child this age, as you can imagine. Given the clearly caustic nature of this liquid and its direct contact with my sons eye, we proceeded to the local Childrens ER to have him evaluated. They performed a few tests and thankfully, he appears to be OK. They advised that we follow up with a pediatric ophthalmologist to get the all-clear, and that visit is still pending.

This glow stick was obtained from a school function. Another parent reported to me that her son also had one break in his hand earlier that same day. He experienced a mild burning sensation from the liquid inside, and also noted the terrible smell.
