The product, in the report: A pair of children’s heart-shaped stud earrings purchased from Kay Jewelers at The Crossings Premium Outlets in Tannersville, Pennsylvania, USA, on September 7, 2026. The earrings feature a small heart-shaped design with defined edges and are intended to be worn through pierced earlobes. They were purchased new for a five-year-old child. The earrings are secured using traditional earring backs. Photos available.

I purchased a pair of children’s heart-shaped earrings from Kay Jewelers at The Crossings Premium Outlets in Tannersville, Pennsylvania, on September 7, 2026, for my five-year-old daughter.

After she began wearing them, I discovered that the earrings had dug into both of her earlobes, causing visible wounds, swelling and redness.

When I attempted to remove the earrings, her ears began bleeding because the earrings had become embedded in the surrounding skin. I removed them and immediately cleaned the affected areas with piercing solution.

I had previously checked that the earrings were not fitted too tightly. I am concerned that the heart-shaped design has edges that can dig into the skin, particularly if the earrings shift or bend slightly during normal wear.

The injuries have caused significant concern about a possible infection. I have photographs documenting the injuries and the original purchase receipt.

I believe these earrings may present a safety hazard to children and request an investigation into their design and suitability for young children.

The product, in the report: Children’s Ball Earrings 14K Yellow Gold set / Stock # 392818605

My 16-month-old daughter had the backing stud of her Jay Jewelry earrings in her mouth. This is about the 4th time the screw-on back piece falls out of her earrings. We have found them in her crib, the car seat, floor, changing table, and the last time in her mouth. We are yet to find the front piece and can only assume that since one piece was already in her mouth, that she must have swallowed the other piece. This is a huge safety hazard, not only because these earrings are marketed as children’s earrings and give the impression that they are safe enough for parents to trust that the pieces will not fall out, but the screw-on back piece is clearly defective because it comes loose. There product page for this set shows another customer having the exact same problem and after contacting Kay, it seems nothing was done.
