No one hurt Made May 5, 2019, sent to the company May 31, 2019, published by CPSC Jun 14, 2019
The product, in the report: Red Wing work shoes EH stock no 133 10/10 U with rubberized soles which disintegrate and split and the glue of which hardens and no longer holds the soles onto the shoes.
I am a 67-yr-old college professor, but I had many hard jobs growing up to get through college and grad school road repair crews, garbage trucks, brake shoe factory, janitors in a public school system.
I write about the last pair of Red Wing work shoes that I bought. I do not remember when they were purchased. The label inside the shoes reads: EH stock no 133 10/10 U.
I wore them much less than earlier shoes that I still have and that can still be worn: soles intact, leather still fine. I would say I wore this pair perhaps 30 days a year. The shoes in question have always been properly maintained and cared for—so not stuck in a hot attic or garage or left out in the elements, or put in the trunk of car.
The rubberized soles and the glue with which they are affixed to the shoes in question have in the last few weeks simply disintegrated and split as seen in the photos I attach. I discovered this when I almost tripped going down stairs at [REDACTED]. I am in great physical shape and agile, so it was worrisome that I was, as it were, tripping over my own two feet. At least three times in April I almost took a fall.
