The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. Hurt, no treatment

Made Sep 9, 2015, sent to the company Sep 17, 2015, published by CPSC Oct 8, 2015

The product, in the report: Black criss cross sightseer Madewell sandal. Size 8.5

While on a walk a metal piece broke through the rubber sole of my sandal and caused me to stumble and scrape my toe on pavement.

  2. First aid

Made Sep 6, 2015, sent to the company Sep 15, 2015, published by CPSC Oct 6, 2015

The product, in the report: I don’t remember what they’re called, but they’re leather and have two pieces of leather that cross over the top of the foot.

I started to feel a lump on the bottom of my foot and thought it I had stepped on a staple. I casually started to pull it out, only it wasn’t a staple; it was the metal bar serving the structural integrity of the shoe.

Made Aug 20, 2015, sent to the company Sep 1, 2015, published by CPSC Sep 16, 2015

The product, in the report: Madewell Sightseer Slide Sandal, C0279

I tripped while walking back to my car in a parking lot and stopped to check the ground to see what had caused me to trip. Upon inspection, I found that the steel shank had dislodged from the bottom of my right shoe (Madewell Sightseer Sandal product #0279). I did not sustain any injuries as a result of the incident. I pushed the metal shank back into the bottom of the sandal, but it dislodged again after a few steps. The left sandal’s shank is still intact, but it appears very close to breaking through the sandal’s rubber bottom. I have not worn the shoes again since the incident because of safety concerns.
