Hurt, no treatment Made Jan 30, 2026, sent to the company Feb 5, 2026, published by CPSC Feb 20, 2026
The product, in the report: This is a trail running shoe called the Olympus 6. While at first glance it may seem that blisters are a expected occasional side effect of shoes, in this case it is a known design problem with the shoe model and should be remedied by the company. That is demonstrated by the prevalence of blister complains in the online reviews that all point to the same design flaw. That design issue makes this a product safety issue rather than a shoe fit issue.
I’m reporting a shoe with a design flaw that harms many customers feet which happened to me but also 1/2 to 1/3 of the published reviews on the manufacturer’s site reports the same issue due to the same flaw. Despite being aware of this design flaw affecting large portions of purchasers, the company has continued selling and marketing the shoe model for 2 years without even adding a disclaimer. By looking at the product reviews on the company site, it is clear the company is aware or should be aware that the design flaw causes blisters at a far higher rate than is typical or normal. While at first glance it may seem that blisters are a expected occasional side effect of shoes, in this case it is a known design problem with the shoe model and should be remedied by the company and the product discontinued from sale. That is demonstrated by the prevalence of blister complains in the online reviews that all point to the same design flaw. That design issue makes this a product safety issue rather than a shoe fit issue.
The shoe is the Altra Olympus 6 and you can see for yourself that at least 1/3 but possibly over half of the reviews all mention heel hotspots and blisters due to the addition of a large blister causing heel pad that prior versions do not contain, and also the next model in the series does not contain. See the reviews on the company website here https://www.altrarunning.com/en-us/trail/mens-olympus-6/AL0A85NJ.html
The company has known of this widespread issue for two years and still markets the shoe despite being fully aware that the flawed design causes blisters in substantial numbers of purchases that far exceeds what is typical. I do not think it is appropriate for them to continue selling this flawed product, especially without a warning disclaimer about the issue.
