  1. First aid

Made May 11, 2018, sent to the company May 21, 2018, published by CPSC Jun 5, 2018

The product, in the report: 1 Person Carbon Infrared Home Sauna Wood construction Tempered glass door and side window Rated Voltage: 119 V Rated Frequency: 30 Hz Rated Input Power: 1230 W

The door to my sauna is 100% tempered glass. I was 15 minutes into my sauna (sauna set at 140 degrees F) when the glass door spontaneously and completely shattered with a loud explosion sound. I had to open the shattered door to get out and then glass flew in all directions totally covering my bare body with glass slivers / particles (some embedded). I sustained numerous cuts on the back of my hands, thigh, and tops of my feet. In one of the pictures you can see blood residue on the paper towel that my wife used to clean me. Luckily my wife was home to place towels over the projecting glass so I could get out of the sauna without serious foot injury. I took a long shower in an attempt to remove the small glass slivers / particles from my body but still have sensations of slivers, which I hope will subside.

This information was immediately provided to the vendor of the sauna (Blue Wave Products) and later to the on-line company we purchased the sauna from (Family Pool Fun). Both entities appear to have taken this serious incident lightly - an incident which could have ended in a catastrophic situation. I received no feedback from the sauna vendor what quality controls / recalls have been or plan to be taken to prevent this in the future. They assert that nothing can be done for me because the warranty has expired. I have contested that this is beyond a mere warranty issue - it’s a liability issue.
