The product, in the report: Sharper Image Power Percussion Pro Plus Hot and Cold Percussion Massager, a handheld percussion massage gun with a dual-temperature heat and cold attachment. Costco item #1940218

On August 13, 2025, I purchased a Sharper Image Power Percussion Pro+ Hot + Cold Percussion Massager (Costco item #1940218) through Instacart from Costco for $120.99 ([REDACTED]). The product includes a dual-temperature heat and cold attachment. When the massage gun runs at its maximum speed setting, the attachment detaches and is propelled from the device at high speed. This happened while I was holding the device. The attachment did not strike me, but it could easily have hit me or someone nearby. On inspection, I found the attachment mounting point is slightly clipped and chipped, a defect so small it is almost unnoticeable, which appears to be why the attachment cannot stay secured at high speed. I contacted [REDACTED] and received a refund, but [REDACTED] would not take the product back. Costco refused a return or refund because the purchase was made through [REDACTED] rather than directly from Costco. I still have the defective product. No injury occurred, but an attachment becoming a projectile at high speed is a serious hazard.

The product, in the report: I own a Sharper Image percussion deep tissue massage gun.

I own a Sharper Image percussion deep tissue massage gun. The unit had not been used or charged for a long time approximately two years or more. While it was stored unused in a drawer, it spontaneously caught fire. The room was full of chemical smelling smoke. The plastic housing melted and showed clear signs of fire damage. I still have the damaged unit and can provide clear photographs of the melting and fire damage. I no longer have the original receipt or packaging. The purchase was several years ago and I do not recall the exact date or retailer with certainty. I am reporting this as a potential fire hazard involving a battery-powered product that ignited while in storage and not in use.

The product, in the report: Product Details: Product: Sharper Image Handheld Massage Gun Model Number: 1012667 Manufacturer/Distributor: MerchSource, LLC Battery: 2500mAh / 54Wh Input/Output: DC 27V 0.5A

On the morning of Monday, April 28th, 2025, at approximately [REDACTED] AM, a Sharper Image handheld massage gun (Model No. 1012667, 2500mAh/54Wh, distributed by MerchSource, LLC) spontaneously caught fire in our home office. The device was not plugged in, was not turned on, and had not been used that day. It had been lying on the floor, unused, when it suddenly ignited.

upon hearing the smoke alarm going off while in our kitchen I opened the door to the office where the device was located and Smoke poured out of the room, and a flame was observed shooting upward from the device. Whilst my wife and I frantically put out the fire I was able to cover the device and put the flames out. my wife called emergency services. The fire department responded promptly. The fire damaged a 3-foot by 5-foot section of our office floor and filled our entire apartment with smoke.

As a result, my familyincluding a 3-year-old childhad to vacate the home and stay in a hotel. Our dogs were also boarded for two days while remediation services addressed the smoke damage. Although no injuries occurred, we have experienced these symptoms including nausea, coughing, and headaches due to the lingering smoke and odor.

We are concerned about the potential risk this product poses to consumers, especially since it ignited while sitting idle and unpowered.
