This is my second xtava that I’ve had problems with. I love love the hair dryer. First one sparked smoked and split the cord and might have caught fire if I hadn’t been able to unplug it quickly. My second one died today in the middle of use. Maybe to prevent it from almost catching fire like the last one.

The product, in the report: Xtava 2200w hair dryer

I was using my Xtava xtv010001 hair dryer when it suddenly started popping, sparking and smoking like a firework. Where the cord attaches to the dryer had melted and the wires were exposed. There was soot on my clothes and counter. The breaker of my outlet blew which caused the dryer to stop sparking. I was not injured. Just a ruined shirt.

Made Feb 27, 2019, sent to the company Mar 7, 2019, published by CPSC Mar 22, 2019

The product, in the report: Allure 2200W Professional Ceramic Hair Dryer, 2 speeds - 3 heat settings.

Note: I am unsure if this report is needed since the product in question has already been recalled.

I was using the Allure 2200W hair dryer by Xtava. While it was in use, it stopped for 2-3 seconds then started again. This happened several times. Then, there was a crackling sound and sparks and a small flame shot out of the body of the hair dryer. There was a terrible smell and my bathroom became very smoky.

I dropped the dryer right away when it happened, and luckily did not sustain any injuries.

The product, in the report: Xtava-Allure Pro 2200W- black. Blowdryer

Ok so I was unaware of this product recall until now! This is extremely crazy and I cant believe this is what caused the fire on my bathroom outlet! I remember the exact day it happened because it was the 4th of July and it kinda messed up all our plans. I had just gotten done blow drying my daughters hair got her dressed then went in the bathroom to blow dry my hair! Well the blow dryer was plugged in for about maybe 3 minutes between drying my daughters hair and then trying to do mine. I get back in the bathroom everything seemed normal. I flip my head over(like bent down forward with my head closer to ground) so I could blow dry my hair I picked the blow dryer up and turned it on high so I could hurry up. Well as soon as I turned it on I heard something weird then a loud pop. Immediately I thought what the [REDACTED] really the fuse just blew! So I yell for my boyfriend before I stood all the way back up (because I was going to have him check fuse box) and soon as I stand up and go to unplug the blow dryer I immediately seen fire! It wasnt huge but it was still fire. Well I guess I’m an idiot because I immediately threw water on it. I wasnt even thinking at all! We just have 3 little kids and they are my world. I guess I didnt really have time to think and my natural reaction to put out a fire is throw water on it if it’s available. I dont know I just didnt want the thing exploding I guess I just really wasnt thinking like I should have been. Well I guess I messed up by doing that because I [REDACTED] shocked the [REDACTED] out of myself (excuse my language). Well anyways I also I ended up burning my thumb pulling the blow dryer cord out because it was melted and AGAIN wasnt thinking. I just didnt want the fire to come back. Well anyways I ended up having to call an electrician and we were without power for a little over a week. Started by replacing the breakers one by one and then in the end had to get an entire new sub panel(breaker box is what I call it) with that and my bathroom outlet and wall I was out of pocket almost $4,000 then on top of that I had to get medicine/ [REDACTED] for my burn/blister on my thumb, and on top of that we had to stay at a hotel for a week.....so I guess I can say my 4th came in with a bang! (Me trying to make the situation less aggravating when I think about it) after all said and done we were out if pocket like $5,000. That was our vacation money....while I’m very sad we didnt get to go on vacation like me, my husbandn and our 3 kids had been planning and saving for, I’m glad it happened when it dis or we wouldnt have had the money(again me trying to make the best out of a bad situation) still to this day our kids are sad we didnt get to go to [REDACTED]! Me and my husband are also sad because we’ve never been there either!

The product, in the report: Xtava Hair Dryer 2200

The GFCI plug made several loud popping sounds when the dryer was last used on 9/29/18, at which time the fuse in my home’s fuse box blew causing the dryer and other electrical outlets to lose power. An electrical burning smell was present and the plug smoked for a couple of minutes. I’ve owned the dryer for just over a year and use it 2-3 times a week.

The product, in the report: Xtava brand hair dryer. SKU NO: XTV010001N

This involves an Xtava brand hairdryer. The SKU number on the hairdryer is XTV010001N. This hairdryer was purchased in October of 2016, so it is less than 2 years old. I was using my hairdryer when sparks began shooting out of the bottom end of the dryer, where the cord comes out. The sparks continued to shoot out for several seconds (at least 10 seconds) before the circuit tripped. I could smell a burning smell as this was happening. After unplugging the hairdryer, I inspected it, and noticed that a hole had been burned in the plastic part where the cord attaches to the dryer in the exact spot that the sparks had been shooting out.

The product, in the report: Description from Amazon: White Allure 2200w Professional Ionic Ceramic Hair Dryer - Bring the Salon to Your Home with This Powerful and Precise Blow Dryer - 2 Speeds - 3 Heat This is the product online: https://xtava.com/collections/blow-dryers/products/white-allure-2200w

I purchased the White Allure 2200w Professional Ionic Ceramic Hair Dryer on Jan. 18, 2016 from Amazon, and I have been fully satisfied with frequent use of it, until 11/11/17. While using it two days ago, there was some sort of leaking plastic/wax and it started smoking, and slightly burned my son’s hand, with the melted plastic/wax that came out of it while the hair dryer was on. If needed, I can provide my purchase details from my Amazon order receipt. Attached are pictures of the hair dryer and the plastic/wax leaking. Of course we have stopped using it since the incident. Thank you for your attention.
