Hurt, no treatment Made Jan 10, 2012, sent to the company Jan 19, 2012, published by CPSC Feb 2, 2012
The product, in the report: Hand held hair dryer - 1875W Black rubber
I bought a style elements hand held hair dryer several months ago for my son’s girlfriend so when she flew out here, she wouldn’t have to worry about packing hers along with a few other items to keep the weight down in her suitcase.
She arrived here on January 4, 2012 and used the hair dryer the next day. Within a few minutes of drying her hair, she came to me and said that the hair dryer had gotten very hot. That it was so hot that she had to cut it off immediately because it was burning her hand. I tried it and within 10 seconds, I too had to shut off or risk getting burned. It also had a terrible odor coming from it after being turned on.
I started searching the Internet and found another style elements sold through Big Lots with the same problem but did not see this model listed as being recalled. I hope this product is recalled or some one is going to be seriously burned.

The product, in the report: St Model DW 778 Style Elements 1875W Hand held hair dryer 125V -60Hz Date Code: 0810 YuYao Dewei Electric Appliance and motor Company UL Listed 40V
This Dryer always has had a warm to hot touch while in use. The longer I had it on the hotter it got. I use the dryer maybe once a week on average. About a couple weeks ago it started to have a slight burning smell while in use. Last night (10-29-2011) I was drying my daughter’s hair and the handle started to smoke and the plastic started to bubble right next to the high low off switch.

First aid Made Oct 11, 2011, sent to the company Oct 18, 2011, published by CPSC Nov 1, 2011
The product, in the report: Style Elements Hair Dryer with cool shot: model DW778 - 1875watts. Black with silver colored buttons and features. Sold with 2 style attachments
Received a “Style Elements” Hairdryer model # DW778, 125V-60Hz, 1875w manufactured by Yuyao Dewei Electric Appliance & Motor Company, China. It was purchased from a Big Lots store located in Garner NC in late August 2011. We noticed that the dryer worked very fast, but it seemed to get hotter much quicker than any of my old dryers ever did. It gets so intensely hot around the handle, that it burns your hand (no injuries as of yet) and just cannot be held. And to the point, that when trying to remove the styling attachments, we could barely touch those either. In fact, last week I tried to carefully remove the diffuser, and when it finally popped off, it cracked and can no longer be used. It is like this at both the low and high settings. I’ve looked for more local or regional contact information, but being that the company is located in China, I haven’t been able to find anything that doesn’t require me to add the “international translation” package to my computer.

The product, in the report: St Model DW 778 Style Elements 1875W Hand held hair dryer 125V -60Hz Date Code: 0810 YuYao Dewei Electric Appliance and motor Company UL Listed 40V
I had noticed for about a week that the hair dryer seemed to have a “burning” smell to it and was extremely hot to the touch where you hold the dryer. On 6/15/11, I began using the dryer and smoke came out of the area where you turn the appliance on. I immediately turned the dryer off and unplugged it and then noticed that the hand area had melted.
