The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Ionic Hair Dryer, Professional Blow Dryer, gray with purple trim, Sold on Amazon.com by AdamPark

On the evening of August 17, 2026, my 15-year old daughter was using an “Ionic Hair Dryer” (listed as 1800W Professional) that we purchased on Amazon.com on March 12, 2022, from the third-party seller AdamPark.

She was using the hair dryer in a completely normal, intended manner to dry her hair after showering. When she finished and attempted to unplug the device from a standard household wall outlet, the hard plastic casing of the ALCI safety plug catastrophically failed. The casing shattered and separated in her hand during the simple, everyday action of pulling the plug from the wall.

Because the plastic protective shell broke apart instantly, her bare hand came into direct contact with the live internal circuit board of the plug. This resulted in a sudden, painful electric shock.

While we are incredibly fortunate that the shock did not stop her heart or result in severe burns requiring an emergency room visit, she suffered significant physical pain and distress. The exposed live circuitry posed a severe and immediate risk of lethal electrocution. I am reporting this because the structural failure of this ALCI plug constitutes a catastrophic product defect. Amazon and its third-party sellers are allowing poorly manufactured products to reach consumers, and this structural flaw represents an extreme electrical hazard that could severely injure or kill other users.
