The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. First aid

Made Jan 16, 2016, sent to the company Jan 28, 2016, published by CPSC Feb 12, 2016

The product, in the report: Elevate by andis tourmaline ionic blow dryer. Do not have serial number. It is 125 vac 50 hz1875 W.

Plugged in blow dryer. As soon as it was turned on it blew up. Entire back casing blew off and apart throwing pieces of casing as far as 5-6 feet away. No smell of any burning prior. Happened instantly as soon as turned on. Piece of casing hit chin causing small cut and chest. Blow dryer about one year old. Very scary incident. Glad did not hit eye.

The product, in the report: Elevate by Andis Tourmaline Ionic Hair Dryer Model ACM-4 125V 60Hz 1875W

My wife was drying her hair with the Elevate by Andis ionic hair dryer when the unit suddenly made a very loud exploding noise, followed by a loud high-pitched rattling. When she unplugged the unit from the wall, there was a large spark from the outlet to the plug. The plastic covering of the dryer did not break, but the motor and machinery inside seem to have shattered - it sounds like there are dozens of broken pieces rattlig inside the unit.
