The product, in the report: CHI round 3-in-1 blowout brush, model CA2385, coral color. It was purchased in Feb 2025 at Ulta Beauty in Bozeman, MT.
I was drying my hair with the CHI 3-in-1 round blowout brush dryer. It shorted out at the cord and caught fire, burning my finger. I am lucky it didn’t catch anything else on fire.

The product, in the report: An older, pink CHI brand blow dryer. It says i.CHI PRO LOW EMF on the side. Model GF1077
I was drying my 8-year old’s hair with a CHI brand blow dryer when sparks started shooting out the end (toward her!). It’s an older blow dryer but I would expect an old appliance to die, not to start shooting sparks!! From a visual inspection, the appliance seems to be in perfect condition.

Was drying my hair with the hair dryer and it started sparking very badly. Not sure if there was a fire or not. I threw the dryer into my [hot tub], which was nearby.

The product, in the report: CHI Professional Hair Dryer with Diffuser, Fuchsia Couture 841385
I received a CHI hair dryer for Christmas, purchased from Sam’s Club. When I use it, my hair is almost dry and it takes me less than 5 minutes to use a round brush and finish styling my hair by drying it with the dryer. For storage, the dryer has been hung on my wall by the loop the manufacturer provides that is permanently attached to the dryer. The cord is not wrapped or anything. Today I was drying my hair and had been using the dryer probably 3 minutes when I noticed an orange spark fly out of the dryer. I held it away from my hair, in front of my view, and tried to turn it off. I accidentally turned it to low instead of off (the switch position is low to one side, high to the other, off in the center). Another spark flew out before I could get the dryer turned off and unplugged. I was very startled. I believe this could easily have set my hair on fire and have never had a hair dryer do this before. Since the dryer was only 8 months old and in perfect condition, I believe this is a serious safety issue and a recall should probably be issued. I will be returning the item to Sam’s Club as soon as possible.

No one hurt Made Jan 23, 2015, sent to the company Feb 2, 2015, published by CPSC Feb 17, 2015
The product, in the report: CHI Infratech Trim Line Hair Dryer RED IT0007
I purchased a CHI Infratech Trim Line Hair Dryer RED IT0007 for my wife about a year ago. In Oct-14 it caught on fire while she was using it. I examined the cord and found that it had burned in half near the handle. The cord had never been wrapped around the dryer as many people do. I called customer service and mailed it back for them to diagnose. They called me a month later and told me that it was due to negligent usage and would not be covered. I told them that I wanted it back in order to send it to the CPSC, they told me it would be $15 and that I should just purchase a new dryer from them at a discount. I informed them again that the dryer was not important but I was concerned about the safety of others catching fire or possibly dying from this product. They told me that their legal team would call me to arrange the dryer be shipped back, but the following day they called and told me that it was now going to cost me $35 or more to get the item back.
I truly feel that they have a dangerous and faulty product that will injure or kill someone if it is not addressed. From other reviews that I have read online, the dryers catching fire is a common occurrence. Please advise me on how I should proceed with this company. My RMA # is [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Farouk Chi Rocket Low EMF Hairdryer
I have been using this hair dryer for around 2 years. It is a Farouk Chi Rocket Low EMF. As I was using it, the electrical cord broke at the strain relief fitting on the handle and produced a spray of sparks, almost electrocuting me. The attached GFCI apparently did not trip.

No one hurt Made Feb 3, 2013, sent to the company Feb 11, 2013, published by CPSC Mar 5, 2013
The product, in the report: CHI Velocity Hot Shot Ceramic Hair dryer (black & red). Taken from website Online “Product Description”: Produces far infrared heat with negative ions to reduce drying time 2 speed settings & 2 heat settings AC motor for more power Available in Red/Black and Black/Red 120 Volts AC, 60 Hz, 1800 Watts http://www.farouk.com/CHI/Discontinued-Products/VELOCITY-by-CHI-Hot-Shot-Tourmaline-Ceramic-Hair-Dryer.aspx
Within the last three months, my husband had contacted the manufacturer of the CHI Velocity Hot Shot Ceramic Hairdryer to tell them that the Hi/Low pressure had stopped working on the hair dryer. They were not interested in fixing or replacing the hair dryer at that time as we were just outside the warranty period. However, this did not render the hair dryer unusable. Unfortunately on Friday, my son was using the hair dryer and sparks, as well as black smoke started coming out when he screamed down to us as he was unsure of what to do. We told him to unplug the hair dryer and ran up. You can see the black burn marks on the middle red button which is the hi/low pressure button. I will be happy to send the hair dryer to you for your evaluation. This product is defective and a potential fire hazard.

The product, in the report: Chi Turbo Hair Dryer by Farouk Systems
Chi turbo hair dryer shooting out sparks. This dryer has been replaced 2 times for the same condition. I’ve come to believe that there is a defect of materials in the heat element or connection to circuit board that is causing the element to overheat, glow, and spark.
