Hurt, no treatment Made Mar 15, 2021, sent to the company Mar 25, 2021, published by CPSC Apr 8, 2021
The product, in the report: Plastic enclosure shroud near side activation buttons have been failing at a high rate across our building portfolio creating a laceration hazard for young children and adults. We have numerous examples of similar failures across our building portfolio. Photos and documentation available upon request.
Elkay drinking fountains with plastic shrouds have been breaking and causing a laceration hazard near the push button where students and staff use to operate the device. The break is occurring near the fulcrum of the side panel and appears to be the result of a design and material defect. This has occurred on numerous fountains at multiple buildings throughout our school District. The plastic is extremely sharp where the break occurs and large openings in the side panels occur where someone could easily injure their fingers or hand if it were to become trapped in the broken plastic panel.
