  1. No one hurt

Made Jul 12, 2021, sent to the company Aug 13, 2021, published by CPSC Aug 27, 2021

The product, in the report: Fluval pool aquarium filter

When the filter gets dirty, there is a basket on the back with a sponge and bio-filter and activated carbon. One side of the filter pops up and starts dripping water down the back of the aquarium. Water dripped on his power strip, which burned out, on 2 different occasions.

7/2020: The first incident occurred. 3/2021: The second incident occurred.

The consumer and his family were gone on vacation when both incidents occurred and the power strip shorted out and experienced a mini fire. In both cases, there was burn damage to the power strips.

The consumer said there are videos on [REDACTED], highlighting this issue.

3/2021: The consumer contacted the firm and has approximately 7 emails of correspondence with them. He provide pictures, a copy of his receipt and all other requested information to the firm. Afterwards, the firm’s rep. (name unavailable) asked him to send them the filters. The consumer declined to send the filters, because he felt as if it was 1 request after another.

The consumer believes that this presents a fire hazard.

I don’t feel the filter was damaged. I think it is a design flaw. I should not have left the power strip sit on the floor. But, I feel you should not have to worry about water dripping down the back when it gets dirty or semi-dirty.
