  • No one hurt 2 CPSC: Incident, No Injury

As each report says it, in short words; CPSC’s own words are under each.

The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Feb 9, 2013, sent to the company Feb 19, 2013, published by CPSC Mar 13, 2013

The product, in the report: Eclipse 3-gallon tank made by Marineland. The only numbers I am seeing on the light unit are PFES03, and 7677/A.

We have a 3-gallon Eclipse acquarium. One night, it started to smell like something was burning. When we went into the kids’ room, we found that the top (where the motor and the light are housed) was melting. Literally nothing had changed from the days before when we had it running. It just seems to have overheated and burned the plastic housing. A total fire hazard. Thank god we were home and not out at the time.

  2. No one hurt

Made May 25, 2012, sent to the company Jun 4, 2012, published by CPSC Jun 18, 2012

The product, in the report: This is a combination filter and hood for a 29 gallon fish tank. The two bulb lamp assembly in the hood is connected to the transformer which overheated. Manufacturers web site is http://www.marineland.com/sites/marineland/products/Detail.aspx?id=3380

The transformer for the hood on my aquarium got extremely hot and started to burn a hole into the stand where it was lying. It was too hot to touch or pick up without getting burned. I am extremely lucky that this did not cause a fire.
