Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.
What’s wrong with it?
DUE TO THE LACK OF ILLUMINATION AND INCOMPLETE LABELING OF THE MANUAL FUEL SHUTOFF SYSTEM, A DRIVER MAY NOT IDENTIFY THE HAND CONTROL TO SHUT OFF FUEL SUPPLY TO THE ENGINE.
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH FD1060 AND FD1460 DIESEL ENGINES AND OPTIONAL MANUAL FUEL SHUTOFF SYSTEMS.
THE HAND CONTROL OF THE MANUAL FUEL SHUTOFF SYSTEM, MOUNTED ON THE VEHICLE’S INSTRUMENT PANEL, IS LABELED WITH THE WORDS “SHUTOFF FUEL LOCK”, AND THESE WORDS ARE NOT ILLUMINATED OTHER THAN BY THE CAB’S INTERIOR LIGHTS.
THIS DOES NOT COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS NO. 101, “CONTROLS AND DISPLAYS.”

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
- This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
