What’s wrong with it?
IN THE EVENT OF A FIRE OR COLLISION, FAILURE OF THE EMERGENCY EXIT SYSTEM TO FUNCTION PROPERLY COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THE OPERATORS TO POSITION THE REARVIEW MIRRORS AND INTERFERING WITH THE FULL EXTENSION OF THE WINDOW NEXT TO THE DRIVER; WINDOWS THERE AND IN THE PASSENGER SEATING AREAS REQUIRED AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF FORCE TO OPEN; AND LABELS ADVISING OF THE EMERGENCY EXIT LOCATIONS MAY BE MISSING.

- NHTSA’s part: Visibility.
What should you do?
OPERATORS WILL INSPECT EVERY ROW IN THE BUSES TO DETERMINE WHETHER ANY EMERGENCY WINDOW EXIT LOCATION ADVISORY LABELS ARE MISSING OR HAVE BEEN DEFACED. OPERATORS WILL INSTALL OR REPLACE THESE LABELS. IF THE BUS HAS A WINDOW NEXT TO THE DRIVER’S SEAT, A ROLLER SPRING IN THE MIRROR ASSEMBLY WILL BE INSTALLED. OPERATORS SHOULD IMMEDIATELY IMPLEMENT THE MANUFACTURER’S RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES FOR ALL EMERGENCY EXIT WINDOWS.

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
- This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
