The short answer

NHTSA received OSHKOSH TRUCK CORPORATION’s report on Feb 9, 1995. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

THIS CONDITION CAN CAUSE LOSS OF BRAKING CAPABILITY AND INCREASE THE POTENTIAL FOR A VEHICLE ACCIDENT.

AIR COMPRESSOR GOVERNOR SENSING LINE DOES NOT SENSE BOTH FRONT AND REAR BRAKE SYSTEM RESERVOIR PRESSURE.

A FRONT BRAKE SYSTEM AIR LEAK WILL NOT BE SENSED BY THE GOVERNOR AND THE COMPRESSOR WILL FAIL TO RESUPPLY THE FRONT AIR SYSTEM CAUSING A REDUCTION OF THE FRONT BRAKE SYSTEM PERFORMANCE.

  • NHTSA’s part: Service brakes, air: supply: governor.

What should you do?

DEALERS WILL RELOCATE THE ONE WAY CHECK VALVE IN THE INLET AIR LINE TO THE REAR SERVICE TANK AND A PRESSURE PROTECTION VALVE WILL BE ADDED TO ALLOW THE GOVERNOR TO SENSE BOTH FRONT AND REAR BRAKE SYSTEM RESERVOIR PRESSURE.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
