The short answer

NHTSA received BLUE BIRD BODY COMPANY’s report on Jan 21, 1994. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

BRAKE IMBALANCE MAY CAUSE LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL DURING BRAKE APPLICATIONS; INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE OR BRAKE APPLICATION COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF CONTROL AND AN ACCIDENT.

AN INCORRECT SIZE BRAKE CHAMBER MAY HAVE BEEN INSTALLED ON THE FRONT AND/OR REAR BRAKE ASSEMBLIES WHICH COULD AFFECT THE BRAKE BALANCE AND STOPPING DISTANCE.

What should you do?

BUS OWNERS WILL BE PROVIDED WITH INSTRUCTIONS TO INSPECT THEIR VEHICLES AND PROVIDE BLUE BIRD WITH CERTAIN INFORMATION. BLUE BIRD WILL REVIEW THE INFORMATION AND, WHERE NEEDED, WILL FORWARD REPLACEMENT BRAKE CHAMBERS ALONG WITH REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS TO THE VEHICLE OWNERS. BRAKE CHAMBER REPLACEMENT WILL BE PERFORMED BY THE VEHICLE OWNER OR A QUALIFIED REPAIR FACILITY.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
