Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.
What’s wrong with it?
SHOULD THE AIR DRYER SYSTEM EXPLODE, IT COULD RESULT ININJURIES TO PERSONS NEAR THE SYSTEM.
THE AIR DRYER OF THE AIR BRAKE SYSTEM COLLECTS WATER WHICH CAN FREEZE, CAUSING THE HIGH PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE NOT TO OPEN DURING AN OVERPRESSURE CONDITION AND BLOCK THE AIR LINE FROM THE DRYER TO THE AIR BRAKE SYSTEM.
IF THIS CONDITION EXISTS AND IF OVERPRESSURE OF OVER 1500 PSI OCCURS, THE AIR DRYER HOUSING OR THE DESSICANT CARTRIDGE MAY EXPLODE.
ALSO, A MANUFACTURING PROCESS CAUSES AN EARLY FATIGUE FAILURE OF THE DESSICANT CARTRIDGE.

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
