The short answer

NHTSA received TRANSPORTATION MFG. CORP.’s report on Nov 15, 1985. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

The notice gives no hazard in a field of its own.

BRAKE AIR LINES WERE INCORRECTLY INSTALLED.

THE BRAKE AIR LINES FROM THE BULKHEAD FITTINGS TO A TWO-WAY VALVE AND TO A RELAY VALVE WHICH FEEDS THE PARK BRAKE AND SERVICE BRAKES WERE INADVERTENTLY REVERSED DURING INSTALLATION.

CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: THIS CONDITION ALLOWS THE PARKING BRAKE TO FUNCTION NORMALLY, BUT WHEN THE SERVICE BRAKES ARE APPLIED AIR IS DIRECTED TO THE PARKING BRAKE DIAPHRAGMS AND NOT TO THE SERVICE BRAKES.

THIS WILL SUBSTANTIALLY REDUCE THE STOPPING CAPABILITY OF THE SERVICE BRAKES.

ALSO, IF THE PARKING BRAKES ARE APPLIED, THEY MAY BE DIFFICULT TO RELEASE.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
