What’s wrong with it?
The notice gives no hazard in a field of its own.
FRONT AXLE BEAMS CONTAIN “SHEAR CRACKS” AT THE BEAM ENDS WHERE THE KING PINS AND STEERING KNUCKLES ARE ATTACHED.
CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: IF FAILURE OF THE AXLE BEAMS AS PART OF THE FRONT STEERING AXLE SHOULD OCCUR, THE COMPONENTS ATTACHED TO THE BEAMS INCLUDING WHEELS, TIRES, BRAKE ASSEMBLIES AND STEERING KNUCKLES MAY BECOME DISENGAGED FROM THE VEHICLE, AND ROLL FREE WITH A RISK TO TRAFFIC SAFETY.
THE VEHICLE MAY LOSE STEERING CONTROL, CAUSING VEHICLE INSTABILITY AND POTENTIAL FOR VEHICLE CRASH.
THIS FAILURE COULD OCCUR WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING TO THE OPERATOR.

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
