The short answer

NHTSA received UNITED TRADE REP(TOMOS)’s report on Aug 14, 1979. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 26, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

The notice gives no hazard in a field of its own.

THE INVOLVED VEHICLES ARE NOT IN COMPLIANCE WITH FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 120, “TIRE SELECTION AND RIMS FOR MOTOR VEHICLES OTHER THAN PASSENGER CARS”.

TIRE AND RIM INFORMATION LABELS WERE NOT INSTALLED AS REQUIRED.

ALSO, REARVIEW MIRRORS DO NOT MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 111, “REARVIEW MIRRORS”.

  • How to reach the firm: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MOPEDS.SYSTEM: EQUIPMENT; CERTIFICATION LABELS. VISUAL; REARVIEW MIRRORS, EXTERIOR.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: LACK OF TIRE AND RIM INFORMATION LABEL COULD LEAD TOTHE SELECTION OF INCORRECT RIMS AS REPLACEMENT PARTS AND INCORRECT INFLATIONPRESSURES. THIS WOULD CREATE AN UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITION THAT COULD RESULT IN AVEHICLE ACCIDENT. ALSO, REARVIEW MIRRORS DO NOT PROVIDE THE PROPER AMOUNT OFREFLECTIVE SURFACE AREA. REDUCED REAR VISIBILITY COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT.
  • Check a vehicle by its VIN at NHTSA: the recalls still open on it are listed there.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
