What’s wrong with it?
The notice gives no hazard in a field of its own.
DUE TO THE WEARING DOWN OF THE SERRATIONS OF THE SHELL ASSEMBLY, LOSS OR REDUCTION OF STEERING CONTROL MAY BE EXPERIENCED BY DRIVER.
THIS CAN OCCUR WHEN STRAIN IS PUT UPON THE STEERING MECHANISM, SUCH AS WHEN TURNING WHILE STOPPING OR MOVING VERY SLOWLY.
WEARING OUT OF SERRATIONS MAY BE CAUSED BY AN IMPROPER FIT BETWEEN THE NECK OF THE SHELL ASSEMBLY AND THE SERRATIONS, OR IMPROPER HEIGHT OF THE STEERING COLUMN CAUSING A “BOTTOMING OUT” WITHIN THE SHELL ASSEMBLY.

What should you do?
DEALER WILL INSPECT AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE SHELL ASSEMBLY WITH A TYPE HAVING AN ADEQUATELY SIZED NECK. IN ADDITION, PROPER HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT OF THE STEERING COLUMN WILL BE ASSURED THROUGH MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES TO HELP PREVENT A “BOTTOMING OUT” WITHIN THE SHELL ASSEMBLY.

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
- This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
