The short answer

NHTSA received PACCAR, INCORPORATED’s report on Feb 23, 1979. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

The notice gives no hazard in a field of its own.

THE PARKING BRAKE VALVES MAY HAVE BEEN INCORRECTLY PIPED.

IF THE PARKING BRAKE PIPING IS INCORRECTLY ROUTED, THERE IS NO WAY TO SET THE TRACTOR PARKING BRAKES INDEPENDENTLY OF THE TRAILER PARKING BRAKES.

THIS COULD CAUSE THE PARKING BRAKES TO BACK OFF WHILE THE TRAILER AIR SUPPLY IS BEING CHARGED, CAUSING THE TRACTOR TO ROLL.

  • NHTSA’s part: Parking brake: driveline: air.

What should you do?

TRAILER AIR SUPPLY WILL BE MOVED FROM THE DISCHARGE SIDE OF THE TRACTOR PARKING VALVE TO THE DISCHARGE SIDE OF THE COMBINATION PARKING VALVE. THIS SERVICE WILL BE DONE AT NO CHARGE.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
