The short answer

NHTSA received GEORGIA TRAILER AND EQUIP’s report on Jan 15, 1979. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

The notice gives no hazard in a field of its own.

VEHICLES FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 108, “LAMPS, REFLECTIVE DEVICES, AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT”, BECAUSE SOME TRAILERS DO NOT HAVE FRONT AND REAR SIDE MARKER LAMPS AND REFLECTORS OR FRONT AND REAR CLEARANCE LAMPS AND REFLECTORS.

IN ADDITION, SOME TRAILERS HAVE IMPROPERLY LOCATED FRONT AND REAR SIDE MARKER LAMPS AND REFLECTORS OR FRONT AND REAR CLEARANCE LAMPS AND REFLECTORS.

What should you do?

DEALERS WILL CHECK TRAILERS TO SEE IF LIGHTS AND REFLECTIVE DEVICES ARE INSTALLED AND ARE IN THE PROPER PLACE. IF NOT, THEY WILL BE INSTALLED OR PLACED IN THE PROPER POSITION. THIS WILL BE DONE AT NO COST TO OWNERS.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
