The short answer

NHTSA received BEATRICE FOODS COMPANY’s report on Apr 18, 1977. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

The notice gives no hazard in a field of its own.

THE LEFT FRONT TIRE MAY HIT A STRUCTURAL CROSSMEMBER WHEN DRIVEN OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD.

IF THE FRONT TIRE SHOULD CONTACT THE CROSSMEMBER, THE MOTORHOME MAY BE PULLED TO THE LEFT AND INTO THE LANE OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC.

THIS WILL BE MAGNIFIED IF THE AIR BAGS IN THE FRONT SUSPENSION HAVE LOST AIR PRESSURE OR IF THE BAGS WERE NOT PROPERLY INFLATED TO 40-50 PSI.

What should you do?

THE DEALER WILL REMOVE THE IMPROPERLY LOCATED CROSSMEMBER AND REPLACE IT WITH A NEW CROSSMEMBER INSTALLED FARTHER FORWARD TO GIVE ADEQUATE CLEARANCE ABOVE THE LEFT FRONT TIRE. THIS WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
