What’s wrong with it?
The notice gives no hazard in a field of its own.
THE INVOLVED CRUISE CONTROLS MAY MALFUNCTION THROUGH CERTAIN TYPES OF MISUSE.
IF THE ENGAGE BUTTON ON THE UNIT IS FORCED DOWN WHILE THE UNIT IS IN THE “OFF” POSITION (PUSHED IN), DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL CONTACT INSIDE THE CONTROLLER COULD RESULT.
THIS WOULD CAUSE THE UNIT TO BECOME AUTOMATICALLY ENGAGED WHENEVER THE CONTROLLER IS TURNED ON (PULLED OUT) REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE ENGAGE BUTTON HAS BEEN PUSHED DOWN.
ALTHOUGH THE UNIT WILL DISENGAGE UPON BRAKE APPLICATION, IT WILL RE-ENGAGE UPON RELEASE OF THE BRAKES.

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
